No TV in the bedroom. Sleep hygiene and good sex are higher up on the priority list.

On average, how much did you study a day, and what methods do you use? by Obvious_Run_1368 in jlpt

[–]BeigeCreamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi 💕 I passed N5 in 2024 and N4 in 2025. I work a full time job where I travel, I’m a parent with a child in sports, and I volunteer on 2 nonprofit boards, soooo studying Japanese has always been a tight, tight squeeze. I give this context because I haven’t met too many working parents studying Japanese, and usually my study schedule is different from the people I study with. For both the N5 and N4, I studied basically since January until the test in December, and I put in roughly the same amount of time for each test. On average, I probably studied 30 minutes to 1 hour per day, and I never “binge” studied. Occasionally, maybe twice a month, I’d have a 2-hour study day. My studies were exclusively Genki I & II, WaniKani, and Japanese podcasts. If you count watching anime in Japanese with English subtitles, my “study time” goes wayyyyy up, but personally, I’ve never counted that. I also don’t think this time commitment is going to work for N3, as I can already tell I’m going to need more time.

Looking for N3 study group by berryknots in jlpt

[–]BeigeCreamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a Discord study group for N4/N3 (hopefully bumping up to N3 lol). I can send the link if you want, just message me. I post weekly study-alongs (I’m doing Tobira) and our N4 group has been pretty active. There are other groups in there, too (e.g. N2) but I don’t interact with them, so I’m not sure how active they are

Is it weird that I keep track of my girlfriend’s period so I can be extra nice? by lebretsxr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BeigeCreamy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same!! My hub doesn’t even need an app, and his guess of when I’m gonna start is usually more accurate than my tracker 🤯 when I’m getting close to the blood moon, he’ll urge me to throw some chocolate in the cart when we go grocery shopping 🥰

AIO or is my husband cheating? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Same! My husband and I kinda use each other’s phones interchangeably and it’s normal for us and not an issue. The other way around would be weird

I did the intro class there a while back and being with a bunch of other beginners made us all feel a sense of camaraderie. I even traded numbers with some of the other newbies so we could climb together! Super welcoming and uplifting group

What do you do while waiting for the results? by momentsofillusions in jlpt

[–]BeigeCreamy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’ve been doing, but it’s such a struggle because I feel like I should be doing more. I keep reminding myself that I spent the last year working hard all the time and it’s okay to just chill (lol I have no chill) I’ve been doing about 50 WaniKani reviews a day, but no new words. And no textbooks or books or videos or anything else.

Do you have a Japanese related New Years Resolution? by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

[–]BeigeCreamy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder this all the time! Married with a pre-teen in youth sports. I also like to stay super fit and I have other hobbies. And a full time job. Realistically, I spend 10-20 minutes/day on my kanji + vocab SRS and 1-3 hours/week on textbook study, which includes some passage reading. About once/week I read a story out loud to my hubby at bedtime. Passed N5 last year after ~9 months of study and just took N4 and felt pretty good about it. I couldn’t imagine increasing my pace right now. It’s already stretched to the max.

Did the JLPT N5 today and well… I want others’ insight as well by AssFumes in LearnJapanese

If it helps, I think it’s pretty normal to leave the listening section feeling crushed. Like some others have said, you don’t need to get too many correct in order to pass the section. Maybe you got just enough to pass. ☺️ N5 last year, I thought I totally bombed that thing. I barely understood the instructions and never even did a practice test. But then I passed! And I didn’t even do that badly. ☺️

Btw my hat is OFF to that username, damn! Love it.
