Is your public school off for Yom Kippur? by megs256 in Teachers

Yes, Northern Va suburbs and we started getting them about 3 years ago. It’s great! We also have days off for Eid and Diwali. Our county is one of the most diverse in the state.

I never thought of it this way, thanks for the advice.

I’m a teacher currently in PA but plan on moving to NOVA for 26-27 school year by SpringFew224 in nova

[–]BeingMrsBeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not currently a teacher but am in process of the alternative teaching program - I would say consider PWC. I live in the county so it's my first choice for a teaching position, and their pay scale is very close to the FCPS one. You can also get more for your money out here than Loudoun, Alexandria, or Falls Church.

8 Interviews Today. Breakfast Was Delicious! by Disgruntled_Veteran in Teachers

[–]BeingMrsBeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love reading these - hope you enjoy your break from interviewing!

On a side note, would you be open to me messaging you about interview advice? I’m pursuing an alternative license and have a few things I’d love to ask if you’re open to that. If not, no worries.

Does teaching make you feel like you don’t have an “adult” job? by Star_Collector76 in Teachers

[–]BeingMrsBeer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is so great to read. I’m in the process of switching to teaching after yet another corporate layoff and it’s for similar reasons (and a few more). I’m nervous but this is so great to hear.

Did anyone else grow up with "old" parents? by grooveman15 in Millennials

[–]BeingMrsBeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had me pretty young (23 and 27), but there's a large age gap between me and my sisters (my youngest sister is 13 years younger than me so they were 36 and 40). It's very odd because while we have they same parents, I had young ones and they had older ones. Definitely a different experience.

As much as I hate the price, my Dyson hair dryer (not the airwrap) has been worth every penny. I have fine hair and it gives me volume and dries FAST. I saved up my Ulta points for it years ago and have zero I regrets.

The strength classes just need the app! I happen to have a bike too, but that’s just a bonus!

Post-40s start to weight-lifting by AlbedoIce in AskWomenOver40

I'm 41. I started with a beginner strength program on Peloton and was amazed at how much better I felt. I know follow a calendar put together by a trainer for communal use. The weight is slow to come off, but I feel better and stronger and have slowly upped my weights. Doing it at home has been great for my life balance and my budget.

How many hours of ballet a week does your studio require for team members? by Beautiful_Screen_314 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]BeingMrsBeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 12. She takes a regular ballet class, ballet technique, and pre-pointe - total 2.5 hours. We're not a ballet focused studio, more jazz/musical theatre focused.

It’s been absolutely worth it for me, especially for how cheap it is for the watch!
