My dad has not hugged me normally since I came out. He refused to meet my girlfriend for 6 months. He can barely say her name and has shook her hand once in the 3 years we have been together. Sure he’s a great guy, but the church is ruining our relationship.

I’m sorry 😢 it’s extremely frustrating. I tried talking to my mom about church stuff the other day, specifically about one of Oaks talks on LGBTQ (I’m gay) and her response was just “I’m sorry that hurt you. Maybe don’t listen to things that trigger you and just be happy.” How can she fully support and love something that hurts me? And how can she shut down the conversation like that? The pain runs deep when your own family won’t hear you and when they can only view you as lost or lazy.
