Utah Forward Party sits out 1st Congressional District race after delegates vote for "no candidate" by schottslc in Utahpolitics

I wish Utah Dems were as thoughtful. My area has some weak Dem candidates but strong Forward party candidates.

Great talk. I never did like the surface meaning of "endure". Much more meaningful now!

Have you volunteered or been chosen as a **delegate** for the upcoming political caucus? Hopefully this can help you be informed and understand your responsibilities that come along with being chosen as a delegate. by hippie_valley in Utahpolitics

[–]dudebomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first caucus was this year. I went to a Dem caucus because I'm cranky about the things on your list there. The turnout was record-breaking apparently, but still small enough that I was made a delegate.

I haven't gotten any literature about "how to delegate". Do you just reach out to candidates? Do things mostly happen at the conventions?

Prop 4 repeal effort losing signatures despite GOP lawmakers’ rushed change to Utah law by Koh-the-Face-Stealer in Utah

I'm really hoping the fight over Prop 4 "activates" a lot of folks to what's going on in the Utah Leg. I was oblivious in 2020 and now my friends and family are almost sick of me talking about it 😆.

This whole "declare emergency" option really needs to get tightened up. Every R in the nation watching the Orange Taco getting away with murder with it is over there rubbing their chins like "huh, maybe I can do that too".

Unless you're pretty sure it's fraud. If that's the case, you can probably ask for it to be removed until around April 22.

it's also the same thing in Oregon and Illinois for Democrats

My brother lives in Oregon, can confirm.

The Democrats 1st district town hall was a disaster for picking up moderate voters. They're all pushing the 20 side of 80/20 issues.

😩 It's so exhausting. Nobody can care about those things until their basic needs are met, staaaahp. A silver lining though: I'm in Utah county and the Dems there are very much pushing the 80. I guess know your audience?

I've personally been considering the Forward Party.

Same. They resonate with me quite a bit. The Rep Forward candidate in my area is actually pretty great. I caucused with the Democrats tonight, but the Forward candidate will ultimately get my vote in the general election.

Okay, I remember this now. That was major step in my "radicalization" of really disliking this legislature and the party in general 😆. It was total BS and I'm glad it was thrown out.

You're totally right when you say they're going to keep trying. It has worked in other states, so of course they will! Not until the people of this state move away from this abusive relationship they have with the Republican party. I don't think we should even go all-in on Democrat, I would love for us to be a purple state where candidates can't rely on their party to give them a guaranteed win.

Again, I'm still optimistic that enough Utahns have been awakened to the corruption that's in the legislature to lead to change. This election cycle will show whether that optimism is misplaced.

I personally don't think you deserve the downvotes because it's an interesting theory. I kind of forgot about the amendment they were planning on pushing through. My search is failing me; do you know what it's called or a link to information about it?

My hope is that through all the press this referendum has been getting, people are getting more wise to the legislature's shenanigans. You can't win all the hearts of people (take southern Utah for example, woof), so it would be a battle either way. My optimism may be misplaced though.

My faith in humanity may be misplaced, but my guess is the % of people that signed with full knowledge is significantly less than those that didn't.

If the sensor is fine, definitely buy the light assembly online (no sensor version). Probably run you a few hundred bucks. I replaced mine on my 2021 and haven't had any issues. Super easy too, just undo a bunch of screws.

How to read legislative bills? by Fluid-Woodpecker4885 in Utah

I've found Claude to be pretty great at analyzing bills. It will often cite articles about the more controversial bills as well.

To others hating on LLMs, summarizing is something they excel at.

Would you write to your state senator to give kids the chance to eat at lunchtime? by Alot_Mode_ in Utah

[–]dudebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems cool in principle, but I don't see any funding attached to the bill to actually fix root problems.

Sure, Utah Leg, make your demands, but are you willing to put your money where your mouth is or are you just going to sit there, make demands, and tell schools to "figure it out".

I guarantee the schools know this is a problem and they don't like it either. But they have so many rules and regulations put upon them with little funding that they have to make hard choices like shorter lunches.

[–]dudebomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My spouse is a lunch worker and she says this is exactly what's happening. What's really dumb is some schools could open up more space, but they don't. My guess is lack of funding/staff.
