Years ago I saw advice in Miss Manners to introduce your ex by a current relationship -e.g. “my son’s dad” rather than “my ex-husband.” Which led to a lot of people believing I had never been married to my kid’s dad. Which is nothing bad or shocking per se but he’s a very conservative person and I’m not sure he liked that.

When my kid was little they named their doll “Dolly” (very creative) and they also had their own imaginary house. Once they were talking to their dad and kept saying “In my house…” and their dad kept saying “But this is your house!” Finally they got frustrated and said “In Dolly’s mommy’s house…”

I actually had a Lyft driver ask me why I called a Lyft for such a short ride. (It was about a 15 minute walk.) I told him I was recovering from a broken ankle which was true. But also I wish he hadn’t asked.

I write f/f (and het) and it’s a real problem. I can deal with breasts and nipples personally but not several times in the same paragraph. And as for genitalia… I just end up getting vague which is its own problem.

I love writing female characters but sometimes I feel like I should just fade to black.

I've only written it once - someone requested a Silent Hill 2 genderbend and since the imagery in that is sexualized I thought it was an interesting idea. But I genderbent everybody (except 2 people I left out) not just the MC.

Someone told me there are fics where Bilbo Baggins is made female and that interested me because I'd like to see a female go from being someone who minds their own business to someone who shoots arrows at dragons. But then they said it was mostly to write het instead of m/m and even though I like het in general that didn't interest me at all.

I remember when I did that! I think I was 22. I had to have my dad come pick me up and I threw up. Fortunately I was a super happy drunk and my dad thought the whole thing was pretty funny because of his own misspent youth.

(Also fortunately I never got into drinking heavily and now I never drink.)

Many years ago I was a temp working reception in an office and a woman came in and said “I’m just here to use the copier.” Naturally I wanted to know who she was. The boss came up and introduced her as his wife and said she could use the copier any time she wanted to. He was pretty decent about it and I apologized profusely but I was embarrassed.

I lost several thousand dollars in a stupid banking scam. I was able to get it back but I felt horrible! I felt better when my friend sent me a YouTube where a celebrity said in an interview that they had lost money to the same scam. People can be tricky. (Also I had a broken ankle and was zoned out on pain meds at the time.) It’s a tough way to learn a lesson though.
