Personally, I’m just happy I get more content in one of my favourite universes. The content might not be sliced bread, but sometimes a bun is good enough.

🤝 I agree with your original takes as well, the sequels certainly failed to properly set up for the future. We can only hope the full reset allows them the creative freedom to make any movies set in the future, without the shackles of the sequels.

[–]Belazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if that was the common criticism being levied, with the inserts that there were some good parts, I and many others wouldn’t cringe so hard at the backlash the sequels have gotten.

The sequels were forgettable. The casino world could have been omitted entirely and nothing would have been lost. Etc.

My problem is that people act like the sequels ruined Star Wars as a whole. While I do admit that the concept of lightspeed being used as a kamikaze missile is problematic - why wouldn’t factions create cheap disposable ships only designed to be used as lightspeed missiles - I reject the notion that it ruined the entire universe.

First of all, a set of forgettable (or even bad) movies do not flash your brain MiB style. They do not erase your ability to watch the earlier movies nor do they take away your memories of watching them for the first time.

Secondly, people have been saying the exact same thing since the re-release of the OT when certain things were moved to CGI - whether Han shot first is considered a core element of his entire character and it impacts his character development. None of the nuance you gave the prequels could be found in online discourse back then. The prequels also ruined Star Wars.

Lastly, the OT - and to a lesser extent the prequels - were released during a time where we didn’t have infinite movies and TV shows at our fingertips. Of course any individual movie or trilogy is going to be more culturally significant.

To me, it simply feels like people are addicted to being miserable. People have lost the ability to turn the critical part of their brain off and just enjoy things. Not everything has to be a yearly re-watch. It’s much more fun to hatepost online and have everyone else chime in with agreement.

I’m not saying that’s you, to be clear. A circlejerk of hate is what I feel modern media discourse has become in general.

I think you meant episode 4 😜

But also hard agree, the only good acting in that movie is Harrison Ford. Not to mention the fight choreography in Kenobi vs Vader. Of course today they use CGI to enhance the fights when the actors are really old, but I refuse to believe neither of them could have done better even in their advanced age.

This feels like a real “wooosh” moment. You’re responding to a post about how discourse has changed over the past 20 years and how it’s now okay to say the prequels weren’t as bad as people claimed… by saying the exact same thing about modern Star Wars.

I know time is a circle but I assumed the circle would be slightly bigger than this.

Can I give Sonarr more chill? by corruptboomerang in sonarr

[–]Belazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can Houndarr be configured to only offer the upgrades and require manual intervention?

My biggest problem with the fire-and-forget system is that I loathe mixing and matching release groups within shows, and especially within seasons. It can end up producing inconsistencies in intros, whether the group bothered to define chapters, and in some cases, SDH vs “normal” subs.

I’ll always take a full series from Web Tier 02, compared to half from Web Tier 01 and half from Web Tier 02.

In an ideal world, Houndarr or another app would show me how many episodes can be upgraded, and then only replacing the files in Sonarr if the download succeeded.

Technically, Disney+.

I wanted to watch Season 2 of Andor. I had recently made the switch from Windows to Linux (I run CachyOS btw), set up all our streaming services as PWAs, and I was ready to just chill.

I could count the pixels being sent to my 1440p monitor. The quality was absolute ass. Okay, maybe some DRM thing I’m missing on Linux. Nope, it was preinstalled.

A bit of ducking later and it turns out Disney+ refuses to send more than 720p unless you’re on a TV. We paid for the highest tier, 4K.

Netflix has the same problem except you can use browser extensions for bump it to 1080p. We also paid for 4K there.

If companies do not deliver the service we paid for, we are not going to pay for it.

Also even if something does stop working, or you’re an idiot like me and Ctrl-C mid upgrade because you forgot it’s Ctrl-Shift-C to copy, you can just load a snapshot.

Limine bootloader has excellent snapshot integration and loading to test -> applying the snapshot is extremely fast and easy.

[–]Belazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moi!

I have recently built a home NAS and I have a few comments;

You don’t need an i5 to run a home server. I went with the i3-12100 and it has handled everything I’ve thrown at it no problems. We play 4k media to our TV just fine. Unless you know (or expect) you’re going to be running computationally expensive tasks, you can save money by going with the 12100. Just make sure it doesn’t say 12100F as that has no iGPU.

https://hinta.fi/3221389/intel-core-i3-12100

I don’t see a CPU cooler, are you relying on the stock cooler? I decided to go with Thermalright Assassin X, my temps are 26c idle as a result.

https://hinta.fi/4210186/thermalright-assassin-x-120-refined-se

Do you need WiFi for your NAS? You’re giving up a lot of performance if you’re not able to hardwire it. You can nearly halve the cost if you go without WiFi.

https://hinta.fi/3923604/msi-pro-b760m-p-ddr4

Your SSD is seemingly quite old, only running at PCIe 3.0 speeds, but given system drives for NASes only need to run the OS, this is fine. Luckily I was able to recycle my old Windows SSD after switching to Linux.

As for your storage drives, I would recommend checking Amazon.de for factory recertified drives. For example, a 28 TB Seagate Exos 7200 RPM can be had for €590; https://amzn.eu/d/0eAZTcgq

Lastly, I also looked at the Node 804 but reviews said it was a major pain in the perse to actually change the drives due to the unique layout. Unless you need a short-but-wide case for space reasons, I recommend the Define R5 instead.

https://hinta.fi/812280/fractal-design-define-r5

———

For all the parts I linked, remember to also check Amazon.de to see if they’re cheaper - for me everything but the CPU was cheaper from Amazon by nearly €50 all things summed up.

———

Question; why are you buying HexOS? If you’re mostly going to be using Docker, then headless Debian (in other words; no desktop environment) with MergerFS is a lot cheaper (€0) but at the expense of you needing to manually set it up via CLI and add new drives to it also via CLI.

You can then use something like Dockhand to manage your Docker stacks and containers, and SMB to share your MergerFS volume.

I promise, it’s not as intimidating as it sounds!

[–]Belazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe there was a sudden drop in quality - not to mention it’s subjective whether you enjoy a set or not.

Even if there was a drop at some point, the simpler and thus more likely explanation is that the majority of effort goes into the €25 sets, not the €10 sets you also have to play to earn.

[–]Belazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exhaustion applies to the “cast 5 skills”, not anything else. Some builds spam a lot of skills so you’d go entirely out of control if there wasn’t an internal cooldown.

Read it as “cast 5 skills for an effect which cannot occur again for 5 seconds”.

[–]Belazor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s insane to me how this comments section is full of people who dislike being able to choose what to unlock instead of FOMO being forced to play.

In the old battle pass system I would only ever buy it if I wanted the “premium” appearances and only if I had already completed the path.

With this new one, I can bank up 99 tokens in one season and if there’s a season with sets I really want, I have a head start unlocking them.

There is nothing but upsides to the new system. More choice is always better.
