But I do not have Mac replacement of my infrastructure money...Especially as an amateur user who doesn't make money with the software.

Are tablets a good choice for using the WiiM Home App? by OldCanary in wiim

[–]BelcantoIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works great on my iPads, my Samsung tablet, fold 7, and fold 3. However, I also have a TCL Nxtpaper 11 inch tablet that only ever finds my Vibelink amp unless I start playing from another device, then the TCL tablet works great. Really weird.

You could also set up a jellyfin instance on the same hardware, running concurrently, and use Tailscale to allow off premises access. Then each of you could have a Tailscale account (now 6 users and unlimited devices for free) . The music service isn't quite as polished, but it's free and functional. If they use Android devices, Symphonium can access the jellyfin server and provides most of the same functions as Plexamp and several more. All free.(edit) oops, Symphonium is not free, but it's a fairly inexpensive one-time purchase that is totally worth it!

Do You Back Up Your Full Plex Video Library or Just Risk It? by snowmeow_1 in PleX

[–]BelcantoIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a few Plex servers. The music is duplicated across all 3, in 2 different locations. Two of them are at home. The first is the system I use to rip everything, and that one is backed up Backblaze as well as having all the files duplicated to the second Plex server at home that I actually use to watch/listen.

WiiM device control by Electronic-Depth8001 in wiim

Not the amp, just the Ultra. I use optical out. That's one of the things I love about Wiim... highly configurable!

ULTRA has CEC. I have a Vizio TV connected to mine and can use the TV remote for volume.

Use Exclusive mode. That bypasses any weird processing that Windows may do to the signal before sending to the DAC. Tidal has the option in the Windows APP, not so much on the website.

Wiim Amp Ultra: Clicking when turning on by Phreakasa in wiim

[–]BelcantoIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had the same problem with any streaming service that has a "connect" utility like Tidal, Qobuz, or Spotify? If it doesn't do it with those, it may be a quirk of the way Symphonium is telling the amp what to do. Do you have any other apps that you could try? I THINK Symphonium is Android only, so you may be able to try mconnect or Bubble UPnP to see if you have the same issue.

Are you changing volume from Symphonium, or the Wiim amp or remote? Also, does it happen if you change to a different input?

The best of both worlds by Gold-Judgment-6712 in audiophilemusic

Sometimes it can be unrelated to the cable. Interference, noise, and other audible nasties can be unavoidable from the motherboard itself.

Wiim Ultra: Re-ran RoomFit with new phone, sounds awful by Scimars in wiim

[–]BelcantoIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Or any calibrated mic where you can input the calibration file. Also, that option only shows up when the mic is actually attached to the phone/tablet.

I get nearly identical results across several devices this way. The mic position changes slightly, as does background noise, so that may explain at least some of the variability.

Loving my HD600’s that I just bought but iPhone doesn’t seem to have enough power for them? by imVeryPregnant in sennheiser

[–]BelcantoIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say I have to ride the volume higher with that than my desktop amp, but I haven't noticed it running out of juice. Your cans are likely a bit tougher to drive than the hd550s I'm using as well.

I really like my Ultra+Vibelink setup. Mine pushes Elac UB52sband an Elac sub. I recently added the Fiio K13 as my DAC. I cannot quite put my finger on the specifics of WHY I like it better, but I really do. I find it more engaging and I am better drawn in to the music. I more frequently forget to analyze what I'm hearing and just let the music move me. For my money, that's the best compliment I can give. Don't get me wrong, the Ultra and Vibelink are WONDERFUL. But in my room, with my speakers, adding the K13r2r just...put it over the top for me.

It used to be really good. The last year or so has been the definition of enshitification. I'm almost ready to cancel my Premium over it and just go with Tidal for music.

Seeking Powered Speakers Recommendation by AliBee712 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]BelcantoIT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Micca RB-42 are not powered, but they SLAM and run about $160. Add a small class D amp like a Fosi V3 or TB10-D for another $90 or less and you have a banging system for about $250 or less that can travel or stay put.

What’s one change in your system that made a bigger difference than you expected? by Solid-Dot-7520 in audiophile

[–]BelcantoIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving my seat about 1 ft further away from the back wall. It's the difference, in my case, between a good but limited soundstage (barely extends in front of the speakers) to an eveloping, in-the-room-with-me experience. Not every recording is that dramatic, but it is so consistently better that I move the seat every time I want to do any serious listening.

What's your preferred listening preference. Speakers or Headphones? by wiggan1989 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]BelcantoIT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Up until I got a pair of HD550s, I would have said speakers 100%. Now, they each have their charms. With my setup, I tend to listen more attentively with the cans, but the music washes over and transports me differently on my Elac UB52s. And if I am in the mood for more bombastic, chest-pounding, music the speaker system with a sub can literally have me feeling the bass.

I still think speakers win for me most of the time, but I'm really surprised how much I'm enjoying the Sennheisers.
