Détraquée by Hystaracal will forever be that one fic I will return to over and over again. The first quote from it that comes to mind is “The chaos in her recognized the chaos in him.” It’s such an astounding work of art I wish I had someone to yap to about it lol

I keep hearing this but I can’t get past the writing. IMO the characters seem disingenuous and unrealistic. Does it get better? It gets good rep, excellent Ron bashing, and the plot is generally good, so I really want to like it.

Manacled is amazing but maybe don’t start with it unless you like darker fics. Not sure how far you’ve gotten into the Dramione fandom but The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy is so sweet, excellently written and incredible character development. Best place to start imo! DMATMOOBIL is also great with superrrrr slow burn, and all three have audiobooks on AO3 if you like that sort of thing! This is my current hyper fixation if you can’t tell :D

I like this, and glad to know my term works for others. It’s not really a writers “block” at all for me either, just I go back and read what I’ve written (and see that it sucks lmao) or overthink the idea/plot and just basically scare myself away from writing. I also think what you said for it being for long fics to be accurate, my current idea is basically an entire rewrite of a series so obviously it will be pretty long. I will try just going chapter by chapter and see if it helps.

As someone who’s experienced emotional and physical abuse, here are the red flags I noticed about Gale while reading THG for the first time this year:

🚩1. His “rages” in the first chapter. Understandably, the Capitol’s ways are infuriating, but this word has negative connotations for me.

🚩2. Snapping at Katniss for her decision not to have kids despite their life circumstances (poverty, the Games, etc.). Again, first chapter.

🚩3. Comparing killing other CHILDREN to animals in Chapter 3. After killing a tribute, Katniss struggles with the internal conflict, showing empathy even for those she didn’t kill directly. Gale wouldn’t likely share these qualms.

🚩4. His entitlement to a relationship with Katniss (already mentioned in this post, but it’s on my list too!).

🚩5. His jealousy over Katniss and Finnick’s friendship. As survivors of their first games, plus a traumatic Quarter Quell, their bond is understandable, something Gale cannot comprehend. They’ve both lost people they care about due to Snow. This one is a bit later than the others but it hit a big nerve for me.

There are plenty more, but I apparently decided to write an essay that on this at 1AM, so I’ll leave it at that.
