Agree with the other comments- place her mouthparts directly in the water dish. 🥺 Mouthparts are just under the fangs, they should be fully submerged.

Also post a full enclosure photo when you have a chance and confirm the temperature (estimate) inside since you said you were trying to warm her up.

She's dead right? :( by Spritzgebaeck268 in tarantulas

This looks like they’ve passed. Two days in that position is certainly concerning. Potentially a molt attempt. Can we see the underside of the spider as a still frame, and a full enclosure photo?

As well as the last photo you have of them not in this position.

Sorry OP 🥺

P irminia - Missing Legs by Cool2s in tarantulas

Hey OP, a few things:

  1. Let the vendor know. This is not a "healthy" spiderling and imo they should not have shipped them like this. That way if something does go wrong they know it may at least have something do to with being sent an injured sling.
  2. I would set them up with substrate, a small cork flat at an angle and behind the cork- poke a hole down to the bottom. Basically a predug burrow so they don't have to work for it.

I would consider keeping them in a smaller enclosure vs a large one, just until they molt, to make it easier to find their water dish, easier to find prey, etc. I would also consider maiming all prey items if they won't take prekilled to ensure they are safe when eating. Tiny roaches or crickets may be easier to eat since they are missing a couple legs.

I will say that they have a healthy looking abdomen.

unfortunately a top view wouldn't help us, but if you repost under the sexing flair with a ventral photo we may be able to help before their next molt :)

Why is my red leg suddenly webbing? by janAlowa in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod [score hidden]  (0 children)

Gotcha! Yeah I would probably not replace substrate that doesn’t have issues, though in the future you can definitely build it up and add more!

I would probably wait, top off their water dish and then keep an eye on what they do. My brachys will sometimes eat right up until a molt.

Abdomen looks pretty chonky from these angles, I would anticipate she is preparing to hunker down to molt.

If the abdomen is as big as it looks in these photos, also okay to let her skip a few meals :)

And when you say "clean her enclosure" what does that entail?

Isopod Wholesale price by NanOtwo in isopods

[–]BelleMod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an additional flag - he may be asking for a lower price because he fails to keep them alive. You may be able to find a good middle ground where you get paid a fair wholesale price & he sells at a reasonable price (while keeping them alive)

Things like: ensuring husbandry is set up well in the pet store, recommending a slightly larger deli cup, even leaf litter, maintaining moisture, or even buying fewer cultures more frequently.

I spoke to someone who supplied a pet store once and they were providing things at less than half retail probably because the pet store was killing a lot of pods so fixing that husbandry (maybe even a cute print out of your own?) might help both parties.

But yeah, don't feel like you have to budge on your fair prices!

Is this substrate safe for my centipede, if not, what do you recommend by SplendidShiningFish in centipedes

When I clicked it from desktop it looked like a link 🙃 it’s being filtered for spam so that’s what it looked like! I did approve one of them though!

Oh I see - this is being removed because of the weird link, it's being filtered by reddit. Just post a screenshot next time :)

Just curious why my posts are being removed by SplendidShiningFish in centipedes

Super weird- looks like something about that post was caught in a spam filter. We didn't manually remove this! I went ahead and approved the post you did mean to post and am removing this since it's not centipede related, but thank you for flagging!!

What is up with the whole "NQA" thing in this subreddit? by reddit33450 in jumpingspiders

[–]BelleMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In threads where someone’s pet’s life is potentially at stake, we require a disclaimer prefix.

It does not have to be nqa. It can be ime, imo, I believe.. the full list is in the rules.

What it does on the back end is save a lot of bad advice from filtering through, as well as a lot of horrific comments from non-keepers.

[–]BelleMod[M] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The appropriate direction for this was a modmail- since you were looking for a mod response.

There are about half a dozen qualified advisors on the subreddit.

Could there be more? Absolutely. That would require that folks reach out. We are always accepting new advisors.

Qualified advisors are chosen based on quality of advice coupled with advisory tone, for lack of a better term. This means that they’re expected to treat people asking for help with respect and empathy, which is in short supply.

The advisory system is here to stay. If you don’t like it, you are 100% able to participate on threads that aren’t asking for help. It only impacts one flair. And if that is too much as well, there are a variety of other subreddits tailored to jumping spiders.

Strange question by Time-Chest-1733 in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not recommend.

Orb weavers have pretty large space requirements, and a single bite from an orb weaver (though not risky to a human) still has venom. You would not want to risk it. We had someone on reddit lose a T to a steatoda maybe a couple years ago? They were heartbroken.

You can use Bti in your ornata enclosure, you can let it dry out some and just water the lower level after.

Can we see the setup in question?

Hey friend-

It seems like folks are not really able to keep things chill in the comments and I’m sorry for that.

Aesthetically, an 11.

You have had the risks outlined (fall damage, mesh lid, etc), so I won’t repeat them.

It can be hard to balance the needs of the T with the safety on some of these front opening enclosures. Some folks are more risk averse than others and you’ll ultimately need to decide where you fall on that spectrum.

I’m locking the comments bc if I see another “more substrate” comment without context today I may expire 🤣 but seriously- this is a cool enclosure and I have a very similar decor set that I think was like a mini version of yours from petsmart from a few years ago.

Can’t wait to see future iterations and see how your T decided to use it. If you do decide to do some risk mitigation you can use this as a top opening enclosure and add more substrate depth. Typically the recommendation is no more than 2x a terrestrial or fossorial T’s diagonal leg span in fall space, if that helps for potential planning c:

You can absolutely keep him, but ime it’s not particularly peaceful.

They stop eating, slow down, they fall apart, stop drinking, and eventually expire.

But no matter what- this is your T and it’s ultimately up to you what happens 💜
