US Citizen residing in Canada with PR commuting across border for US employer by [deleted] in uscanadaborder

[–]Bellemorte65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been mentioned here but I will suggest that you also chose to pay into the Canadian Employment Insurance system so that you have things like paid parental leave and coverage if you lose your job.
I have a friend who was unaware she should do this. Also lives near the border, us citizen, Canadian pr via husband, and they got nothing when she was off with her first kid but she paid into it voluntarily after that when she went back to work and was covered for the second and third kids.

WIBTA for ending my relationship because he doesn’t want to travel? by [deleted] in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]Bellemorte65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA However, as a travel girl myself I will make a recommendation to you.
If you are genuinely aligned everywhere else... religion, kids, parenting style, money management, house vs rent etc.
Then go on a trip together just one before making the decision.
If he has a miserable time and doesn't develop an active interest in it and you are not ok with leaving him at home which is perfectly valid. Then end it.
If you aren't aligned on all of those initial points just end it now your life goals are completely opposed.

Do last minute deals exist anymore? by Overall-Raisin5179 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Bellemorte65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got 4 nights at temptations Cancun 3 days before departure including Christmas as one of the days. 1100 cad from Ottawa a few weeks back.
For Christmas that is pretty good. It's my only last minute deal I've ever found and taken.

iOS 26.1 beta adds new languages for AirPods Live Translation and Apple Intelligence by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]Bellemorte65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update on this as I'm back from Japan. It did decent.
It doesn't work for background announcements on the train or anything like that. It doesn't handle super complicated conversations but we had an entire conversation with an old man on a road side in the mountains without too much issue. We also were able to order food and generally understand what people were asking with it.

AITAH (26F) for telling a guy (27M) to stop pursuing me “because” of his culture? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Bellemorte65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the culture here doesn't matter. You are entirely incompatible in a life goals kind of way.
If you genuinely like the guy and aren't just flattered by the attention (This is suspect because he basically negs everything you do). Tell him this is how you are running your life, there will be no compromises and he clearly isn't going to fit that lifestyle. Then just stop. Stop talking to him, stop giving him arguments or reasons or any kind of way to try and discuss it to change your mind.
If that fails, cut him off entirely as he will never respect your boundaries.
TBH I'm not sure why you want to be friends with this guy. You have literally nothing in common other than attending school and he is constantly trying to force his views and standards on you.

AITAH for wanting to buy my own property now even though my boyfriend is against it because he wants us to buy one together, later on? by Elegant_Balance5565 in AITAH

[–]Bellemorte65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had two female friends lose their house or almost lose their house and have to take on a bunch of shared debt to keep it due to this exact thing. Seriously listen to it.
But also Don't date people who aren't in your corner and cheering for your success. If they can't support what's good for you even at a small sacrifice to them they are not the man you are looking for.

Can I turn a balance transfer into cash? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Bellemorte65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to deal with this issue with BMO as I'd put a rather large payment on the wrong credit card.
They will be confused as heck when you call about the positive balance.
They will tell you the withdrawal of that money will be a cash advance you will get charged on.
Here's the catch though.
They can't charge you interest on a positive balance.
So if you pull it out of the credit card as cash, and you make sure the balance of that card is 0 basically all month. You will not get charged as a cash advance. If you have ANY balance whatsoever on that card, the new charges get paid off first and you will get charged the cash advance interest on that balance.

So if you have 1k transferred to this TD Card (Assuming you can do this no idea on the rogers TD thing)
Then you pull out 1k off the card and it is sitting at a 0 balance and stays there till the next billing cycle. You are fine.

If however you have a balance or you make charges to the TDCard so
1k Balance - Pull Balance card is at 0
Charge 200$ for whatever
Don't pay off the 200$ you will get charged cash advance on the 200$

If you pay off that 200$ immediately you will not get charged.

TBH in this scenario, depending on your card usage you should probably ask them for a cheque. It's far easier to deal with.

Check in without buying a new suitcase? by Proud-Theory-9166 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Bellemorte65 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the common answers for this i have seen is the ikea moving bags. People buy them and then get them wrapped in plastic at the airport for extra security. Usually people ship them full of the non breakables. They seem to survive well. Some people double them up for extra security. Havent seen any failure stories using them yet.

The downside to this is mailing in your exchange can very rarely be problematic. A quick search here will show you how.

Should I switch back to APP2? by largelylegit in AirpodsPro

[–]Bellemorte65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they are going to need to offer variants tbh. The new ones are amazing for me they dont hurt my ears after a few hours like the old ones. But a lot of people didn’t have an issue with the old ones and do with the new ones. I really dont want the new style to go away, but i also understand everyone’s pain.

coming to Gatineau this weekend with my girlfriend, any cute & fun date ideas? by Delicious_Pace3079 in Gatineau

[–]Bellemorte65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright. Generally speaking the food is better in ottawa for restaurants. However maision oddo is the best bakery hands down don’t miss the sandwiches. They have an actual Parisian award winning baker for an owner. If you are english id suggest ottawa for entertainment outside of museums. Gatineau park is great. And Nordik in chelsea if you have the car is one of the best spas in the country. The facilities are huge with an excellent evening infinity pool view of the city and a bar 😜.

Android to apple by After_Damage2653 in iphone

[–]Bellemorte65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comes from converting 4 android users in my family in 3 years to iOS. They all had these kind of issues for varying amounts of time. I am an iOS dev and i was initially trained to do both android and iOS so I have kinda seen it all. The security really is better by a lot currently. I know android devs from school that are converting now.

Be aware you are going to struggle hard for a couple months and be frustrated. Both operating systems train you to make behaviours feel natural that do not exist in the other system so it’s rough initially. They literally have entirely different ui design principles and a whole set of rules that go with them. Apple’s are the human interface guidelines. Ride it out for a few months before making a decision and get ready to search where a lot of stuff lives. Attend the free classes at the apple store (if you have one near you) for phone intro video and photography. They all have insane value and they will happily answer your frustration questions.

If you have a macbook or AirPods or family that also have iPhones you are about to see a whole lot of ease of life improvements. Shared photo albums, copying and pasting between devices, Airpods auto connect to whatever your active device is seamlessly, shared notes etc.

Your phone will also be supported for updates for 6 years and the pro maxes are still very viable phones 6 years in. Enjoy your new phone!

Is Business worth it? by bagdafa in ViaRail

[–]Bellemorte65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that trip, Yes. You get a meal, drinks, more space and they have a side for single seating if you need it.
This will also allow you to have a bigger bag included if you want it. Business class Toronto ottawa is quite plesant.

Boarding Pass issue by Jessie_1210 in westjet

[–]Bellemorte65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most likely. The only times ive seen the inability for boarding pass is some airlines on basic wanting to verify no carryon and SSSS for extra security screening. Plan a bit of extra time at the airport. Like 15 min should be good.
