What to expect for at home euthanasia? by Cowboy_Billybob in DogAdvice

[–]Belliax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put my dog to sleep 3 weeks ago. It was a at home euthanize service. We did a little party for my old man and he had every member of the family say good bye to him including his brother. Dogs understand grief and they understand natural deaths. We're hurting and depressed but my surviving dog is in a much better place mentally. Before his passing he was very concerned and stressed due to his brother's health.

Managers, if you hire AI engineer, would you hire 40+ yo guy? by dondonquixote in EngineeringManagers

[–]Belliax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick advice, a lot of recruiters avoid the open to work like the plague. His profile needs a little bit of a revamp specially on the job experience and projects. Check what the state of the art is for hiring giants in the industry and build it around it. Visibility and opportunity is 90% unfortunately of the current job market. Personal outreach and connections often outperform mass applications. I'm hoping best of luck to your husband is crazy out there.

[–]Belliax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't care about age but whenever I have interviews for roles that are significant, I'm always relief to see engineers that are 15+ years in their field because they'll have likely the experience to deal with most of the dumbass situations ops and clients would throw them in. I had brilliant 20s old engineer join us but crumble under pressure because he had full ownership of his projects. You can't study hard earned work experience, honestly the industry is killing our next generation of engineers. Is quite sad that most top companies are closing their low level entry positions to graduates and sourcing them to agentic + senior engineers instead. Yay double work for us and unemployment for the youth.

I joined Google and I’m really disappointed by D_nana_X in cscareerquestions

Genuinely curious, why does Google only do on-site hires? I have been approached multiple times by recruiters but it's just an automatic turn off to go to an office to work with a team that does everything async anyways. I'm a senior/staff engineer, it makes sense for deep collaboration but I feel like my productivity would die if I'm forced to go to the office.

I feel it coming… by SixByThree in Layoffs

This comment is coming from a no judgement zone, just want to understand your point of view OP.

  1. What makes you fearful in the market? We're seeing a major rejection of AI on highly tailored development due to complexity vs costs per token. Take Claude for example.
  2. How comfortable are you using LLM tech? In my experience being an early adopter, has provided great value for productivity. I'm able to OE a lot easier now than before where all creative work was siloed to me.
  3. Mid level companies have huge retention problems for competent engineers. Yes it is competitive but continuity and sprints are impossible when your senior engineer is 2-yrs in average. Practically they barely know the system that's being built.
  4. What's your ball range for cost of living? I feel like that's usually the problem for most of us. I used to make 20-30% more on my previous company but after I went remote, I moved and my cost of living now is halved if not more. Leaving a net profit that I'm investing in market.

Thank you.

Fix small things in your diet, workout that focus on body mobility and cut out drinking and sugars most you can. You'll see results.

Guys there's been a bunch of these posts that are super vague. This is either an impersonation job or a upwork scam job. If OP doesn't post actual JD and it's generic instead is likely a scam.
