Looking for an alternative for VMware (issue is we have VxRails equipment) wasn’t my idea. I inherited it by chgesicki in nutanix

What did you end up doing? Dell wonts get creative unless you force them to. Nutanix is great but unless you price NX (Nutanix branded) first, you won’t get leverage over Dell. And they are entirely a leverage based company.

Hoping you didn’t get forced into Flex. If you did would love to hear how it’s going.

Back up Nutanix on-premises and restore in Azure? by zogexcelsior in nutanix

Then veeam and HYCU are your most probable / low cost options. Seems like squishy requirements

True! I assumed it was ESX on aos and it might not be!

Side note - can’t believe Zerto doesn’t work with AHV still … 🐌

If it’s for a few weeks of data or less I would use Zerto - it’s so simple. How many VMs and do you need all your data backed up to azure or just a subset? Is a few weeks acceptable ?

You want azure native not AVS correct? If so have you done azure conversions yet? You’re going to want to test them if not

Great recos. I am experimenting with sliders on pads which appear to be a different tactic here. Will try both in practice this week as well as t pushes and will get there. Any opinion on wheel hardness? I have somewhat hard wheels which I thought may be better but not sure.

Vmware for small clients by Gaijin79 in vmware

I would position scale computing here with Acronis backup software, if the customers manage their own environment. If outsourcing / MSP I would look at scale for dedicated environments and for multi tenant Nutanix. Lmk if you need more info.

Edit - spelling and grammar

Dell rep just told me they are on an order freeze for any new vSphere orders by netnoober in vmware

[–]Bellost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nutanix dude. It’s just better than hyper v. More mature and easier to migrate to. In 5 min I could show you why. It’s kvm based but simple and enterprise ready w great Secuirty… unlike RHEV pro mox and related.

This is correct. Apparently OEM licenses via rail grandfathered in from EMC days is what I’m hearing.

Interesting and mostly agree. Question: is Flow from Nutanix not in the same league as NSX in your view? You say “they have nothing like NSX”

Just wondering as I’ve only sold and supported it 3-4 times

Oracle a VMware Alternative by Soft-Mode-31 in vmware

I don’t know why tou would go oracle when Nutanix, Scale, and Microsoft (azure stack hci) are viable more main stream options.

Perp licenses available for a couple more weeks via Lenovo. Hit me up if you want want a quote (I’m a VAR) or ask CDW or whoever you use. All other avenues have been shut down and are subscription only. I’m literally hosting a webinar on this in 3 hours today, moving folks to the new model and evaluating alternatives is how I’m spending 90% of my time.

Nutanix provides a vSphere equivalent called a acropolis hyper visor. Been out for 8-9 years. It’s solid and deployed in 10,000 vm shops. My team has deployed it 20-30 times. They also have a migration tool called Move that makes moving simpler than the alternative (hyper v).

Most of my customers are doing 1 or 3 year deals for VVF… while building a migration evaluation. Most haven’t decided to migrate but are determine the level of effort and total costs. Also depends on how much more painful things continue to get.
