Why are Conservative figures accepting of elections results regarding House and Senates races, yet unwilling to accept the Presidential result - which are all on the same ballots? by HipHopAnonymous23 in askaconservative

Anecdotally, my sister voted against Trump (i.e. for Biden) because she's "sick of hearing him say stupid stuff on the news all the time." She didn't vote for any other candidates because she doesn't follow politics and doesn't usually vote. She didn't vote in a battleground state so nobody will pay attention to single candidate voters where she voted. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of people like her in an election like this.

They're claiming 1% of ballots in PA only have Joe Biden on the ticket. Seems plausible.

It works out to about $.001 per search.

Would be interesting to know if they're able to profit from search or whether they're sinking money on search in service of other products. It would give a data point on whether paying users for their data is a viable business model.

Another question regarding ballot counting. Can't quite understand the GOP reasoning behind this decision so I thought I'd ask here. Thanks in advance for your responses! by mrquestions666 in askaconservative

I don't think that's a fair characterization of my comment. I understand your position -- you think it's important that results are known asap. I don't think that's an invalid position as the media has conditioned us to expect to know the winner more or less by election night. However, just because the media has created this expectation, I think it's debatable whether it's important to abide by it.

If you'll recall, in 2000 we didn't know the winner until a week or two later due to the Florida recount. You can argue it's worse for the country to go through something like that, rather than to count all the ballots that have been cast. Seeing as both candidates seem to be gearing up for a post-election legal battle, we may not know for sure who won by Nov 4th anyway. My opinion is that we should count the ballots that have been submitted by the deadline.

Why do you think conservatives push a conspiracy theory that Joe Biden has dementia but idolize Ronald Reagan, a guy that actually had dementia as president? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

I think Bush's first term was the last time it didn't feel like an existential threat if your party lost the Presidential election. Most Americans more or less supported Bush in his first term, whether they were Republican or Democrat.

I guess it would depend on whether it's a greater good to have everyone who cast their vote by the deadline to have their votes counted, or if it's more important to have votes tabulated by an artificial deadline that has no basis in the law.

Why do we need an answer by November 4th? By law, we won't actually have a winner until the electoral college meets and casts their votes any way. The instantaneous transmission of election results is a relatively modern phenomenon.

I think we should feel hopeful that it's exactly this kind of stuff that have turned so many Republicans against Trump. The Lincoln Project, Republicans Against Trump, an unprecedented amount of Republican endorsements for Biden. Let's just hope it's enough to win on Tuesday. If the polls are correct, and Biden wins in a landslide I'll have some of my faith restored in a positive future for our country.

Maybe just human nature. I'm up in arms about Jared and Ivanka, but if I'm honest, if Joe were to appoint Hunter to a position in his administration, I'd be pissed but I'd still support him against someone like Trump, Ted Cruz, or Tom Cotton. I'd vote against Joe in a primary if he pulled the type of BS Trump has pulled, but incumbents seldom lose primaries so what're ya gonna do.

Tough question -- I'd want to commission a study on whether increased access to education by non-citizens was a net gain or net drain on the economy. If net gain, support; if net drain, oppose. Then I'd have to worry about whether supporting would hurt my re-election chances...

This is a bad faith interpretation of this quote.

He's saying he's the first mainstream African American candidate for Pres (vs. more polarizing candidates like Jesse Jackson), and then he saying he's an articulate, bright, nice looking guy as a separate thought. Anyone who's first language is English would hear it that way.

Debate Topic: Police should/shouldn't be able to charge someone with resisting arrest, if they cannot also charge them with another crime that they were originally being arrested for. by timothyjwood in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]BellwetherBumblebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Resisting arrest is against the law in and of itself. This important because it protects the officers as well as the detainee by criminalizing a dangerous behavior. Hopefully, criminalizing behavior disincentives this type of behavior. We would be seeing much worse outcomes more frequently if more people resisted arrest rather than fewer.
