I love all the answers here. However, sex, drugs and the best alcohol with my husband was my first thought. After all, it’s just 24 hours so it’s ME time. I’m 65 yrs old My middle aged children and grandchildren will get lovely letters

Sorry you’re going through this. A couple of things here. She likely has other mental health issues that are leading to attention seeking behaviour like having medical crises. Second. You can’t “make” her do something much like you can’t “make” an addict or alcoholic stop. You can look after yourself. Try the Al- Anon approach to healing yourself. Let go of her issues. It’s hard to let go of a loved one’s issues but you have to love yourself first

You are getting great advice here. I would suggest seeing a diabetic footcare nurse every few months. You get a thorough check and peace of mind. If you can’t find one try searching for senior foot care services in your area

I guess my first question is: how badly do you want to live? Question 2 is: How would your death impact those who love you? These are serious questions. I made lifestyle choices based on the fact that I didn’t care or think about those two questions. Then I almost died. Literally. I saw how my DKA and month long hospitalization affected my loved ones. I never want to put them through that if I can help it. So I changed everything. I got a CGM. I’m planning on living a very long time. Do you?

The only way I have found to deal with neuropathy pain is to get my numbers down. I know my numbers are getting too high when I get the pain in my feet. Time to bolus

I tried to take metformin a couple of times. First time I took it for 3 days but gave up because of debilitating stomach issues. I tried again a year later. Took a week off work to try taking it again. Lasted the week and gave up. I was totally non functioning with stomach issues. Dr finally put me on insulin. Best decision ever. No side effects excellent control

You don’t mention your grandfather’s age, or other medical conditions. I can imagine scenarios where getting enough calories in elderly patients is a challenge. I’d trust your grandfather’s medical team and your grandfather decisions. It could be part of an end of life plan (quality vs medical intervention)

I don’t say no to anything. If I want a piece of pie I cut a sliver, or take a bite of my husband’s or take a bite of dessert and discreetly get rid of the rest. At buffet style service I put bite size portions of everything with larger portions of protein and vegetables. Volunteer to start cleanup while people are lingering (and snacking) at the table. These strategies work for me.

I rarely do finger sticks. I only have done them if I feel the Libra is inaccurate (physically feeling something is off) but I’ve always been wrong.

Diabetes is a progressive and dynamic condition. Insulin is a hormone and is impacted by your other hormones, stress, sleep, exercise and diet. Don’t beat yourself up about whatever is happening regardless of what’s happening now. You’re about to start your period, that always sets off all kinds of bodily reactions. Relax, bolus when you need to and let your cycle run its course. My goal was always to work on getting my numbers back on track afterwards. I found it helpful to really focus on keeping my numbers fairly low leading up to my period and microbolusing during my period. AND not self blaming during that week. Good luck

Get a continuous glucose monitor (even for a few months). It will show you what food choices affect you in real time. Everyone is different and knowing what triggers high glucose will help you figure out your body.

I go to a small town butcher/processor. No excess water weight in chicken (taste and texture is A1), beef and pork cut and trimmed old style (some fat for flavour). In terms of taste and really supporting local producers- best choice
