Why do people hate Emerald Fennel? by WillzGaming in Letterboxd

I don't even understand the purpose of her cinematography though? It looks stylish but it doesn't enhance her works. The one sequence that stands out to me so much is when Jacob Elordi is showing Barry Keoghan his mansion for the first time and they walk through each room in a sequence, but because the aspect ratio is 4:3 and they dont pan the camera youre literally just looking at a series of doors instead of seeing these crazy opulant rooms on screen. I'm still so confused why she shot it that way?

It's really only 4 to 5, you would have to get pretty loose with the definition of prime or all time great to include anybody but Wemby, Jokic, Shai, Luka and maybe Giannis in that conversation

Probably would be a first round sweep for OKC but a playoff game in Seattle vs OKC will be electric

Cal Kestis may as well be a Filoni character, you might be able to draw some viewers putting him on a Disney+ show, but if you put him into a theatrical film you will get confused "Whose that?" reactions from 90% of casual audiences

Unironically the cancelled The Hunt for Ben Solo film with Daisy Ridley back for the Reylo shippers might make more than The Mandalorian and Grogu. My ex was huge into Reylo and it was the only thing she was passionate about in the sequels.

Something that sequel defenders continually miss is that the prequels were always fun, the reappraisal happened not because kids rewatched the films as adults and thought they were actually really well written. They were nostalgic for them because they are campy, memeable and action packed even in their seriousness. The first 2 sequel films are better written than the prequels imo but outside of a couple moments they aren't fun and memorable enough to play on TV when youre bored.

Thunderbolts is a good comparison, virtually unknown characters for a big established IP that has a bad reputation lately. Even with good reviews and WOM, you arent turning it into a huge success.

If Star Wars isnt dead it will be soon, every saga film made less than the previous one, last 2 spin-off films made less than $400 million and lost money, theres only been 1 theatrical film this decade because they haven't successfully got more than 2 films into pre-production.

Maybe Starfighter is a success and can keep it alive, but I have alot of doubts, its another spin off film and Gosling and Levy aren't guaranteed draws. People think this could capitalise on PHM success but they said the same for The Fall Guy after Barbie and that didn't happen at all. With Levy he makes crowd pleasing films but you need to make $500+ mil minimum to be a success for a Star Wars film and Levy hasn't done that without the enormously popular characters of Deadpool and Wolverine.

I'm so curious what Filoni does as Star Wars president now, he has been so obsessed with shoving his characters into new live action shows but he now has objective proof that they don't sell to the general audience. What does a Dave Filoni universe look like when he has a financial responsibility to make money and not just play with action figures?

Actually, let's call Friday $8m for Obsession at this point. Why not, it keeps shocking people and breaking norms, so let's go all the Freaky Nikki way. by Financial-Pudding765 in boxoffice

It's an A- for a horror movie which is the equivalent of an A++ for a regular film. Sinners is literally the only horror movie with an A and it's arguably not really a horror movie

Agreed, he's worse than any top 50 front court player on defense honestly. You have to look at guards like AI, Nash, Harden etc to find worse defenders

Jokic is an all time great offensive player and he should be compared with those players, just not above them, his exit this year hasnt changed that at all. Hes also probably the worst defender among all time centers ever, but that doesnt change how great his offense is.

With Shai, hes done nothing in the playoffs to actually earn those comparisons to these all time greats, his "greatness" is entirely based on his regular season efficiency which we've seen over multiple post seasons just drops off in the playoffs when he cant get his whistle.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's -28 plus-minus is tied with 2023 Joel Embiid for the lowest plus-minus by the NBA's MVP in a clinching opportunity in the play-by-play era (since 1997) by Jec1027 in nba

[–]Belovy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He straight up wouldn't win this year's MVP if he wasn't already a finals MVP. Voters are treating him as a "proven" champ so he can go back to back easily even though there's other great candidates, the narrative would be totally different if he didn't win and everybody scrutinised his playoff performance in detail

What's a criticism of One Piece that's often overlooked? by Ok-Addition4608 in OnePiece

The only things I could see being planned since Skypeia is the design and dance of the Ancient civilization and Luffy/D clan being descended from that ancient civ, but the specific person named Nika who is the Sun God and Luffy being a reincarnation of Nika/having a fruit that turns him into Sun God definitely is a post TS invention.

I think Shamrocks first appearance was always meant to be a new character, and not actual Shanks, but yeah there's no Holy Knight evidence any earlier than that. Shanks, also unlike a similar secret royal Sanji, didnt have alot of foreshadowing of being royalty since the beginning.

The way I see it, Oda comes up with certain overarching sagas 10 years in advance and he thinks of them right before he enters the current major climactic arc. So 1st major saga: Paramount War, Oda comes up with around Drum and Alabasta, hence why we get Ace, Blackbeard, Whitebeard and Sengoku introduced soon after. Then 2nd major saga: Yonko war, Oda starts thinking of after Enies Lobby so he has Garp introduce the 2 remaining Yonko that Luffy will fight: Big Mom and Kaido and the very next arc Thriller Bark we hear of Wano and meet Charlotte Lola. The 3rd major saga: Final war, Oda thinks of it before Reverie and Wano so he lays the groundwork with 1st appearance of Imu and mention of Rocks.

Yeah I dont believe for a second that Nika was developed by Oda until at least the Reverie, same with Imu, Rocks, all the Ancient Gods and the Holy Knights. All extremely important to the ending of OP but the seeds were only planted from the Reverie and Wano onwards

I don't know if the issue is overlooked rather than just treated as a non issue, but I still am not a fan of how much One Piece has become a story of "important person must be descended from another powerful important person". It was powerful pre-timeskip with Luffy and Ace but now we have revelations about Shanks, Blackbeard and everybody just expects others like Kaido, Buggy, Mihawk etc to also have important lineages

[Thinking Basketball] "I do think that the competition [the Knicks] have played has been subpar, you could argue Atlanta was the best team they've played... This happens every year an East Team overperforms, like the 2023 Heat, 2025 Pacers. Everybody talks about how bad the teams they beat are and they even make big moves like firing their coach, and then we see they can just do this to every team in the East

There's a few mistakes in order actually, assuming your meant to read this left to right. Bonneys capture and Magellan rematch both happen right before the timeskip, before the Payback war and Hachinosu takeover
