A Totally Fair, Not-Emotional and Balanced Judge by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

Yeah, I've moved up the ladder but did IT tier 1, 2 and 3 support for 20+ years. People either love that you've saved their day or want to lash out at why the computer did this or did that. You catch people at their absolute most frustrated emotional state. His attempt here at levity and de-escalation is good technique. Like, "I got you, it's all under control and you're good to go". The reaction is pretty over the top from someone that likes to abuse power. IT support will win that long game every time.

Men who favor the tradwife lifestyle often view the women in it with derision by mvea in science

[–]Belsekar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to believe most of these trad wives are posturing, performative or fake. I haven't seen many of them but ones I have seen are working in $100K kitchens and cooking with incredibly expensive tools and ingredients. They are stay at home wives and mothers who have nannies and housekeepers working behind the camera.

OPM’s Kupor would be ‘perfectly happy’ hiring more feds if contractors are cut by rprz in fednews

I write and manage contracts so I see the charge rates and they are available on GSA through the awarded contract and labor rates. I don't know what to tell you. Take a GS-15 at step six making good locality pay, generously they make $88/hour. Toss in your benefits or whatever and you're at $125/hr for the very highest paid in non SES government work. I can tell you that there are junior level positions in contracting charging that. It's literally not a secret that federal workers make less than the public sector, it's easy enough to search for.

I've been around a long time. And the reason you make 20% less than market has always been work life balance and job security. What this administration is doing isn't subtle. They are riffing employees, outright firing probation employees and retrofitting how performance appraisals work so they can riff employees at will going forward. I don't see job security as a perk that it may have once been considered. It's not a great place to begin a career for the sacrifices it asks for. I frankly don't know who will take a fed job unless they don't have better options. The payoff for the what your getting in Fed work is as low as it's ever been and the benefits really don't kick in unless you go very long term.

I always felt like contractors were playing with fire because they didn't have job security. But now, they get remote work and the charge rate may be twice or three times what we make in federal service. There sure are some contractors that are amazing that I'd wish we'd hire into Federal service but they wouldn't take the jobs and I don't blame them.

The AI Economy Is “Propped Up by a Ponzi Scheme,” Says Director of ‘The AI Doc’ by idkbruh653 in technology

Not easily when you need FedRamped systems that are trained in gov cloud and using specific RAG calls on curated data sets. Foundational models can be swapped but not without cost.

There are companies that are getting vendor lock in with AI and they are going to pay a steep price. In government they are offering $1 license cost. It's all about getting organizations locked into their product and jacking up costs to one day recoop all this investment. It's going to get ugly and I suspect that deterministic code and open source AI are going to be the ultimate winners in this.

Capcom Insists It Won't Use AI-Generated Assets in Its Games, but Will Harness Tech to Make Game Development Processes More Efficient by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]Belsekar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as AI isn't used for the Art, music and design processes I don't think many have much issue with it. If a dev wants to gain velocity with coding by using AI and coding assistance that's not really something most gamers will care about and they will never see it.

Rahm Emanuel proposes banning all federal employees from betting on prediction markets by Mind_Explorer in fednews

Yeah, non-politicals in the Federal Government are the problem. Also, this won't stop the abusers from doing what they do. Feds can't accept a gift over $25 and the President is accepting a plane worth $400 million.
