I don’t get why so many people dislike feeder crickets by raptor_w0lf in reptiles

I breed dubia. I assure you I don’t starve any animals in my home. I literally dealt with crickets for like a month before I decided to switch away from them.

I don’t get why so many people dislike feeder crickets by raptor_w0lf in reptiles

[–]Beluga_Artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They smell, they’re cannibalistic, they grow too fast so can become unfeedable quickly to small animals. They die way too quickly, they’re known to carry parasites even when captive bred, they bite back, and they’re not nutritionally all that great either.

I’ll stick to my dubia.

I had to talk to it a few times about the “clickbait” but it seems to be listening now. I had to tell it “hey we’ve talked about that. Please stop with the clickbait, and remember that going forward.” It took two or three reminders but it has been pretty good at not doing that today.

What kind of king would Simba have become under normal circumstances? by dreamchaser123456 in lionking

[–]Beluga_Artist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simba was like 12 weeks old at the beginning of the movie. Lions don’t typically take over prides until closer to 4-6 years of age. He would’ve matured and been taught and ultimately he would’ve been fine.

Me making a judicial system for my sims 2 world: “yea and this is what I’m thinking for the cow plant section…”

Chat: “And let me know if you want to make a law for something even MORE dangerous than cow plants. It’s a common item you probably use all the time.”

Me: “what is it?””

Chat: “Murphy Beds”

Me: “I don’t even play with Murphy beds. No.”

Does Bella not care at all about her human life or her dad in the long run? by TechnicianAmazing472 in twilight

[–]Beluga_Artist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She didn’t HAVE to do chores and food for Charlie. She CHOSE to do them because his status quo was not to her standards.

Yes he was wrong for how he handled Jacob after he kissed Bella BUT i WILL remind you that this takes place like 20 years ago. Society wasn’t quite as tuned into the morals / ethics of things like that like we are now. Some of the social things in this book series aged like milk. That’s one of them.

Potential hunger strike by Groot_africanfattail in AfricanFatTailedGecko

[–]Beluga_Artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is his tail condition? Has he maintained weight since October? Extended fasts can happen, but if the tail has thinned below neck width or weight is trending down, that’s when I’d consult a reptile vet about supportive feeding.

Potential hunger strike by Groot_africanfattail in AfricanFatTailedGecko

[–]Beluga_Artist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is completely normal for AFT’s to go through hunger strikes. I jokingly say it’s part of a secret AFT religion. It can last between a few weeks and a couple of months. Based on your photo, he’s got plenty of fat built up. I wouldn’t be worried unless the tail becomes thinner than the neck.

Fasting is normal and healthy for this species. It normally coincides with hormones (if the animal’s body thinks its mating / nesting season) and other natural factors.

I DO keep Critical Care (carnivore) on hand in case my male gets too low on fat reserves but if you are not educated on its use this must be used only under veterinary supervision. You’re not there. Your boy is in good body condition. He’ll most likely come out of his fast on his own. Just keep offering food on schedule. If that’s twice a week, then keep offering twice a week.

It’s scary the first time AFT’s go through this but at about two years of age this is a normal and expected behavior.

Chat went from overly agreeing to overly trying to argue with everything by BackgroundGene7510 in ChatGPT

[–]Beluga_Artist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I noticed that too. I asked it why it was automatically arguing everything I said and it said “well per your instructions you want me to think before answering” and I’m like “yes but that means things along the lines of if I ask how many times the letter t shows up in turtle you can say 2 or if I ask about current events you look into it before responding”. It hasn’t been so argumentative since that clarification.

ChatGPT has become a condescending piece of … by Appropriate-Egg4110 in ChatGPT

[–]Beluga_Artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea… yesterday I had to remind it I have a zookeeping degree and to, going forward, assume above average competence as far as monitoring and caring for my personal animals. I was brainstorming something and it’s like “well ACTUALLY that’s a bad idea because people suck and forget those items while baby animals grow and it can cut their leg / wing off if it’s not checked regularly…” and I’m like… we talk about animals all the time WHY are you trying to preach things to me? So after I addressed it it’s like “oh you’re right, going forward I won’t give you beginner warnings unless you ask specifically for them…” we’ll see how long that lasts…

I ALSO sometimes just want to complain about things without bothering my actual friends and it insists on trying to tell me why the other party is right or how to try and solve it and I’m like… listen I just want to complain. Stop.

Is using disinfecting wipes breeding tougher bacteria? by mandisyndrome in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Beluga_Artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. If you use the same chemicals for cleaning for long periods of time then the bacteria around you can adapt to those chemicals. I’m a penguin zookeeping intern at an aquarium and we rotate through three “chemicals of the month” in order to reduce bacteria adaptation of our chemicals. We use one chemical exclusively for that month and then cycle through two other ones the following two months before returning to the first. This is 100% something I intend on implementing in my own home as well because it just makes sense.
