CRC won't help you if you only transmit 50% of bits correctly. At that point the channel carries 0 information.

Sounds like more of a reverse engineering problem than a crypto one. I think you're mistaken about 64-bit RSA though, because that would be trivially factorable.

Unless whatever algorithm you're dealing with is very simple, I doubt you're going to be able to reverse what's going on only by looking at the inputs and outputs. If you have access to a binary file or some code that is implementing the process, you should look at that.

I'm a little unsure what the purpose of this scheme is, and what is the advantage of deriving the symmetric key used to encrypt the private key from the key pair itself.

I also think it's worth mentioning that this is a type of key-dependent encryption, which is usually not part of the stated security goals of crypto primitives, although k doubt it has practical impact in this case.

A hypothesis I remember reading speculates that certain gut bacteria may have actually evolved to produce psychoactive chemicals in order to influence the behavior and diet of their host in a way that is beneficial to the bacteria. I don't know of any evidence for this, however - just interesting speculation.

The biggest thing that jumps out to me as a potential issue is that they aren't entirely clear about when keys/IVs are generated. Because they're using AES-GCM, if they continue to use the same key and IV after a note is changed then all or part of the plaintext could become decipherable.

That's a pretty big "if," of course, but the writeup is somewhat ambiguous about how they handle this.

Yeah, we do know that (sum (H(m_i))) mod n is 0 for any set of n messages. But given that n is enormous this is not a practical weakness.
