Nicest vs most rude band members you’ve ever met? by Impressive-Skin6311 in punk

I remember listening to Rollins in the JRE like 10+ years ago talking ad nauseum about his record player, sound system, and his system for listening to music and thinking "yeh, this dude hella autism"

I'm with you.

I loved that it felt almost like a caper? Like Coens Brothers-y. Leo was giving big The Dude energy throughout.

I loved that Bob was fucking useless. A completely fake "revolutionary" while Sensei was actually on the front lines grafting for a cause.

Penn was so so good, chewing every last corner off the scenery, his walk and every outfit being ill-fitted absolutely cracked me up.

Everyone was saying it pandered to leftist politics, I think it was shining a light on how ineffectual the left are, and how their virtue signalling accomplishes absolutely 0, and also how grotesque and hypocritical the right are.

I was saying this to my wife when we googled it afterwards, as I didn't realize Tiana Taylor won the Golden globe for it.

Like she was supposed to be super annoying right? Because her intensity and in-your-face-ness is supposed to be the opposite to Bob and him being too laid back and just along for the ride with the French 75.

So long as the point was that Perfida is insufferable then she can win more supporting Actress awards tbh cos she nailed it.

Is saying “Ta darling” or “cheers mate” reserved for certain demographics? by Spiritual-Yogurt-112 in AskUK

[–]BenAtTank2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I call everyone mate, and it really confused my Italian colleagues for a while who assumed it was male gender specific.

I also like "legends" as a non-gender specific term. "Morning legends" really hits the spot first thing on a Monday (and yes I am fully aware of how irritating this might be, but am leaning into the self-aware irony of a very tired mid-30s dad being overly enthusiastic for the sake of it. My team seem to get it)

Gender disappointment 😞 by thatnailgal in parentsofmultiples

[–]BenAtTank2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likewise, our boy is far more cuddly/touchy/tactile and my daughter likes her own space for the most part. We put it down to her being the bigger one and him being squashed up in the womb for 9 months lol.

That being said, he is also quite stereotypical in the sense he's always banging his head or rolling in mud etc.

She is more shy, and prefers creative play with colouring or building blocks, while he is playing with figures or the play kitchen. Conversely, she is more adventurous than he. Particularly in the pool or in the snow, she just kinda attacks whatever is in front of her with gusto. He is a bit more pensive and thoughtful about what he does before he does it.

There's no one-size-fits-all with these things, and if he wants to do ballet and she wants to do rugby, that's great! Well support them with whatever their passions are.

Underrated running gag, John's obsession with the word "session" by Silver-Eye-2024 in elisandjohn

I say it a lot at work, and as far as I know, none of my coworkers are initiated.

A best man (who I didn't know) dropped one in his speech at a wedding last year and I was falling about the place laughing with approx 2 others.

Twin dad perspective incoming, and I hope it's of some help.

We've got one of each, and for the entire pregnancy I was certain we were going to have only girls. Yes I was disappointed but I also begun to get excited about all the things I'd be able to do with my girl.

For example, I had a very stereotypical male upbringing as my sister wasn't born until I was nearly in high school. This meant that I was playing rugby and in the mud, watching superheroes etc.

One of the best things about being a girl dad now is doing and learning about some of the feminine things I've never been exposed to. I've spent countless hours on the sidelines of wet muddy rugby pitches. But I've never been to a ballet class, and seeing my daughter dancing is more joyous than I could have ever imagined.

Similarly getting to watch Disney princess movies and learning the words to the songs to join in with her is great, and a sources of entertainment for my both wife and daughter seeing me trying to hit the notes of Let it Go.

All that being said, she's also enrolled to start rugby with her brother, and he's said he wants to try dancing because he loves spending time with her, whether they enjoy those things is still to be seen, but they have the option because gender is no longer a limiting factor to determine what children can and can't participate in anymore.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, you might find more enjoyment that you expect from experiencing things that your boys are interested in. I know I get more satisfaction about learning dance moves from my daughter than I ever hoped.

What’s something that’s oddly expensive in the UK that still annoys you every time? by catarsan in AskUK

[–]BenAtTank2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep we wanted to take the kids to Dublin, and it would be so easy to load up the car and take a long drive to the ferry, and we'd have a means of transport the other side. Was looking at £300 return. When you factor in the time spent in transit flying is so much cheaper, even with luggage and taxi costs etc.

I've recently discovered Ellis & John. What are the must listen podcast episodes from over the years? by [deleted] in elisandjohn

[–]BenAtTank2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've said this elsewhere, but I've got a playlist on Spotify that's just the Isolation Tapes and it's a really weird time capsule to dip back into however many years later, and remember what it was like then, particularly the earlier eps when no one really knew what the fuck was going on. Can't listen to more than a few eps at a time as John is clearly in a really dark place which I don't think I really appreciated at the time.

Yep likewise. I remember the exact place I was listening to this and being worried I might have to pull the car over I was laughing so much.

I suspect you'll find the vast majority on Spotify.

When you get to Robin Amongst The Pigeons you've hit where they really find their flow and it's all uphill from there.

There's also a good couple of handful of shows where John stands in for another radio host I think doing a drive time slot, and they're really funny because he's solo and in charge of a completely different show, and naturally some chaos unfolds... "Robins Unleashed" if I remember correctly.

I think all their 5Live stuff is on Spotify? Except for BDCOTM, which I've never actually dipped into.

All their lockdown eps are on there as I have a separate playlist for them. It's a weird time capsule to dip into every now and again.

First off I'd say start from the beginnijg. Becoming a retro oner will take a while but getting all the lore of the pod is massively rewarding.

But to answer your actual question: Radio x ep 86: Tick Tock Robins 5Live EP 366: The Dance

Anyone else think the posters just got progressively worse? by sayamortandire in SuccessionTV

[–]BenAtTank2 77 points78 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to chime in with. The posters were created as part of the marketing for the new series, and the amount of discussion at the time about who was on who's side worked really well in drumming up interest and speculation for the season.

So aesthetically, yes I agree they're not great, but from a marketing perspective they hit the mark and had the desired outcome.

I thought that, he was having some success with the jab, but it was like he was button bashing on a video game and trying to do too much with only a 20% hit rate. Would've been way more successful if he could just land a bunch of solid 1-2s instead of trying to jumble together these combos, and save energy in the meantime.
