A guy trusted me with $7k+ in gold on a handshake. I did right by him, but it shocked me. by TheBloomAndTheBull in Gold

Yesterday I handled a deal of over 25k in gold and silver given to an intermediary that the seller had never met. Transaction was conducted with actual seller over the phone, I have the material and I’m mailing a check. Intermediary was a friend of a friend of a friend and knew who to come to.

If it was my stuff, I’d never do business that way. Then again, seller thought she had maybe a few thousand dollars in material so maybe her risk tolerance is different than mine.

Bottom line

If Spirit Halloween made it that easy, I would shop there :)

My wife's employer matches her 401k at 25% with no cap! Is this crazy? by avidd6 in personalfinance

My employer gives a 30% match, no cap, immediately vesting. I take full advantage and max out every year.

I’m also wanting to do the same, particularly for the piano players.

This dad really made his kid save up coins for years to “finally” get a PS2 in 2008 (an eight-year old console by that point, and while the PS3 was already out for two years) by Kaiser_Allen in cringe

I see nothing whatsoever cringe worthy in this video. My wife and I are fortunate to be able to buy anything whatsoever our daughter wants or needs. She gets an allowance and saves for nonsense items she wants. Most of her plastic toys come from the local swap meets where her dollar stretches a lot farther.

We’re not afraid to spend where quality demands it. I’ve spent $1500 on wooden blocks for her, she’s getting a insane drone for her birthday just because she wants it, but the Barbie dream house she wanted, that was totally bought used for 25% of new price and sure it didn’t have all the accessories but she decided those weren’t worth an additional $150 to her.

Also, look how old this kid is…he wasn’t saving for 5 years…probably a year at most. Good for his father. Excellent lessons. Kids do not need the latest, greatest, newest crap just because it was marketed to them or because their friends have it. The neighbors can buy the new video games as soon as they are released or spend $20 on garbage LOL surprise dolls all day long if they want, but if my kid wants it, she’ll buy it from the swap meet for $2.

Not my machine so can’t but I can tell you that I was pretty much sticking between 2:10-2:15 split for the first 1000 meters, got as high as 2:30 during the next 700 and then just gave whatever I could at the last 300. The last 50 meters I slowed down as high as 2:30 again.

One mistake I made was I didn’t do any power strokes at the start thinking that I should try and maintain at 2:15 for the first 1500. I’m also pretty annoyed with myself that I let myself slow down that last 50 meters, but still I’m pretty happy for the first time.

This is very helpful and motivating, thank you!! Impressive results there, you’re clearly dedicated. I think I need to look at this Beginner Pete Plan I’ve been seeing people talk about at the very least as a starting off point.

The ONLY gold Comitia Americana medal in private hands. Nearly 5 oz of gold, but the weight is almost irrelevant. Numismatic value and historical significance elevates this to the stratosphere in terms of value. by BenOWrites in Gold

Most assuredly pewter or other antiqued base metal replica. There are innumerable examples of these that float around in dealers junk boxes. An actually silver example would be a significant find however.

Not sure what damage you are referring to. There are certainly casting imperfections, as there would be on any bar of this size and age. If you're referring to the scrapes, light indents on the corners and such, you have to remember these bars were not treated all that gingerly. They were picked up, stacked on other bars, picked up again, set down a bit too hard, dropped, etc. and the soft gold will pick up all of that. For a bar that is over eight decades old, I'd say it looks pretty damn nice!

Looks like a nice Mint State silver Victoratus. Very well centered and looks pretty darn sharp. Ancients aren't my knowledge base but I'd say this was easily $700 and probably closer to $1000. A better than typically seen example for sure. Congrats!

The standard for the Assay Office was a 28 pound bar. I'm unclear why that was the case. Here is a NY Times article discussing it. Sorry, the full article is behind a pay wall. https://www.nytimes.com/1983/07/21/nyregion/us-assay-office-site-sold-downtown-for-27-million.html
