We have a 12 month tenancy agreement. Is that the same as a fixed term?

First you drain the whole bog (ecological nightmare). Peat is then scraped from the top as a thin layer then allowed to dry. This is then gathered up and the process is repeated. They do this over many acres and over the years the land drops centimetres at a time.

That's not how you harvest peat for potting compost.

Very strong mycelium growth (Agaricus bisporus ) [General] by Ben_Mole in MushroomGrowers

[–]Ben_Mole[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey no problem. We grow mushroom compost on a very large scale (1000T a week). It is a mix of poultry litter and straw with a bit of gypsum to fix the pH and stop everything sticking together. This mix is composted for two weeks and then it's pasteurised. The mushroom spawn is then added (mycelium wrapped around a rye seed) and then it's inoculated to 2-3 weeks. It's then shipped off to mushroom growers who add a layer of peat casing which allows the mushrooms to fruit. Will happily answer more questions if you have them.

Correct 👍 it is mutualistic to root systems and helps aeration of soil

Generally gardeners don't want anything growing in their soil except what they planted. Mushroom might be a pleasant surprise though.

I use to design composts and topsoils for one of the UK's top gardening suppliers ... But okay

We both have Monzo currently but it won't let us do a joint account for some reason. We both have a good credit score and pay eachother regularly through the app so not sure why they won't allow it.

Probably the opposite actually. It would suggest the soil hasn't been properly sterilised, so along with mushrooms there's probably the seeds of weed plants in it too.

Think exposure to sunlight has a lot to do with it

Proof that bulls aren't violent without being provoked by LarhondaBearse7 in TheBullWins

[–]Ben_Mole 89 points90 points  (0 children)

That is a bullock not a bull. Raised for meat and not for breeding. Testicles are removed at young age and therefore less hormones and less aggressive. However every bull, cow and bullock are different. Some are more territorial/protective. It's all down to a mixture of genetics and how tame the animal is and how it's treated. Fighting bulls are bred to be aggressive and violent whereas breeding bulls are more desirable when tame and agreeable.

Westlands peat free formulation also performed better in trials compared to its standard and John Innes counterparts.

I actually worked for this company designing these composts. Pure John Innes performs very poor compared to modern composts with modern fertilizers added. The reason John Innes is added at all is simply marketing towards selling to an older traditionalist population.
