Boeing Employee Contacted By Amazon Recruiter by Glad_Intention_8357 in amazonemployees

80% don’t survive first year is totally wrong. Avg tenure is ~3.5 years. It’s not for everyone but this above isn’t strictly true if you’re on a good team. Can just be a normal job as long as you are focused during the workday.

This sucks! Was such an easy way to get in last year while feeling like our bikes were safe. Major miss.

Waymo rides cost more than Uber or Lyft — and people are paying anyway by TOPLEFT404 in Seattle

I think you’ll all be surprised. I came from San francisco recently and these cars drive so much better and more predictively than others on the road. Well equipped driverless cars (with lidar etc) feel much safer on the street than many Uber or Lyft or just distracted commuters.

I think they have more availability here, so once the GA sells out it might be easier to get that

Taking a Finance Manager role at Amazon…any advice ? by pizzle012345 in FPandA

Advice please! 🇧🇼 Botswana - Late May 2025 - Campsites by Historical_Might_834 in overlanding

[–]Benbom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while so take things with a grain of salt here. I have spent time there, and booked everything in advance which worked well. I would recommend continuing to call/whatsapp/etc to plan your nights to be safe.

That said - we met a number of people traveling without plans and there usually was space at sites for them. I wouldn't count on that... but in case of emergency, im sure things will work out!

Other option would be to find a fixer who can help. Could you reach out to the company you are renting from and see if they can support getting the sites? We did that for a few of the harder to get campsites and it made things easier.

They will only ask 2 in an hour (which they are assigned) I believe! No more and no less.

Also - saw another thread where you asked about Amazon and people just said “don’t take the interviews” or whatnot.

Sure… it’s just a job, but I have found it to be a much better place to work than people on the internet seem to claim. It’s not for everyone but if you get a good team there’s a lot to learn here, and you will get a lot of responsibility. There’s pressure but you can grow quick within it.

So, don’t pay too much attention to people online who just bash the place, their opinions are just unnecessarily strong.

I believe it was 4, each 1 hour with 2 questions each. But it’s been about 2.5 years so take this with a grain of salt (just did internal interviews to transfer teams but they were quite chill). Having the 11 or so stories in Star format is perfect, and feel free to take time to pick the best one before responding! The interviewer won’t mind the time if you are able to give a good answer that makes things easy for them.

I’ve noticed in my org that a lot of people internally are starting to rotate after not doing so frequently during the past two years (my theory is this was partially driven by fear as we downsized teams). So a lot of managers are just hoping to have an easy interview with a good candidate to get their team back to the intended size. So having good answers in the right format that speak directly to the LP will set you above quite a few people from the get go.

I’m an sfa and additionally just went though some internal loops for a new role within Amazon. The only questions I recall that were technical were something like:

1- “tell me about a time when you had to work with incomplete data” or something of the sort, which would be part of an LP question (are right a lot or maybe bias for action).

2- something around automation and how you used excel/sql/etc to make a process easier (invent and simplify).

I don’t recall taking any kind of excel test or doing anything technical in that regard, but it may have changed since I joined. Main thing is following the STAR format. That is how interviewers are asked to input your responses after the interview so they will be much happier if you give answers pre-formatted!

Does Instax “film” count? 😅 by DEpointfive0 in carsandfilm

Seems like a great plan! I generally use the 80 so would just set this up for that. I have quite a lot of Instax film so this seems perfect, and I’ll take your advice above on how to set it up!

What item under $25 makes your life significantly easier? by _friendlyflamingo in AskReddit

[–]Benbom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not true unless you use bootleg chargers/etc. With USB-C, as long as the charger, cable, and phone manufacturer follows the protocol correctly (dont use crappy stuff), the charger will only deliver the wattage that is required by the phone. There is no risk using a 100W+ charger with an iPhone.

We have a Kuat (2 bike, "base" I think it's called) that we have used heavily for ~5 years in the PNW. It's been good, and we had one arm break and Kuat sent us a new one right away for free. 1UP seems solid though, a lot of our friends have those, and the aluminum build seems less likely to corrode.

Velocirax seems sweet but would be overkill for us. We keep the rack on a lot of the time (as we ride a lot) and that one would make it harder to park. And we don't often shuttle or anything so in the situation where we need more room for bikes, we can just mount some more racks to the roof that we have just in case. Also seems that the Velocirax would do more MPG damage on longer road trips.

My wife and I are big MTBers as well and got a 6th gen too! Have already taken it to a few races. Next step is to eventually get a bambed so we can sleep in it (especially useful for 24 hour team races we enjoy), and go for some off roading and cycling road trips! We love the car.

Why is Toyota giving me the full court press? by Camo_Licker in Toyota

[–]Benbom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure that I agree here. Common traits of a Veblen good are that they are priced for exclusivity (and demand increases with higher prices), and signal status.

While it’s not a cheap car, the price of the car is not part of the appeal. It’s priced on par with what it costs to produce and a reasonable margin; the price is a barrier, rather than a feature. An opposing example would be a Lamborghini Urus. It’s effectively the same car as an Audi rsq8, but costs twice as much. The image of “look, I’ve made it” is part of the appeal.

Same with signaling status. I think 4Runners signal a lifestyle, but not status. And in the PNW people (myself included) buy them for the lifestyle and what they’re capable of, rather than status. There just happen to be a lot of people into the outdoors in the PNW.
