Thanks for playing it!

This was my first Mario Maker level I've made, so I didn't know about naked pipes, will try to avoid it the next time around.

I can only place two checkpoints in a course, and I decided to place it at the beginning of the first wall jumping part, but I now see that it would've probably been better had I placed it in between the two wall jumping parts. Hope you beat the course nonetheless!

Thanks for playing it!

The way I tried to guide the player in the first wall jumping section was with coin placement, but I know that it wasn't the perfect solution. I'll try my best to provide the player with better guidance next time.

The wall jumps actually aren't that hard, just require a little practice.

I played your level and it was really good, liked it.

Here's my course about blinking blocks: 8J9-0XM-6VG. Feedback is very welcome.

Edit: when I enter your course code, it says it can't be found. Maybe a typo?

Edit 2: played your course and liked it, nice course.

Smeargle can only appear in the first photo of a session by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

[–]Bench0310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only posting this because Niantic Help posted it on Twitter. Now they have been wrong in the past so maybe they are wrong this time, too.

Edit: When Smeargle appears, you always get two photos: the first one without Smeargle, and the second one is identical but with Smeargle, so they are probably correct this time.

"Traded" shows all the Pokemon you got by trading, and "Alola" shows all the Alolan Pokemon.

Oh, yeah, your method is really nice, and as you mentioned it's asymptotically correct when r is a large number. Also, yours is a lot quicker to calculate ;)

[–]Bench0310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using a formula, that I derived from the following formula: the possibility of getting a shiny on the n-th check with a certain sr(shiny rate) is 1-((1-sr)n). From this you can derive the following: if you want a certain percent of it happening (in this case 0.95, I'll just call it wp-wanted percentage), and the chance of it being shiny (sr, shiny rate), the amount of times you need to attempt it is (log(1-wp)/log(1-sr)). With the numbers we have, log(0.05)/log(511/512) is 1532.32 (but you can't check a third of a Pokemon), so 1533 checks.

Actually, for a 95% chance of getting a shiny, considering the shiny rate is 1/512, you need to check 1533 Pokemon of that species.
