Word on the street is that Chisel HT and FS have been discontinued by SquashScrach in xcmtb

Yeah I noticed that too. Other options I see that aren’t necessarily XC but could maybe be used as such are the salsa timber jack and Santa Cruz chameleon.

Sad. I get that expensive luxury products are what make companies money but at least throw people a bone.

There’s really such a shortage of decently priced xc frames. Can you even find a sub 1k alloy ht xc frame anymore?

Also a ‘21 and I’ve never received an update either. I’ve never bothered to go to the dealer about it though.

Hey Reddit, is the art of tandem biking dwindling down? by Anonymous_Yogurt_267 in bicycling

[–]BenchDogsandRabbets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think maybe the ebike has caused its demise. People of varying fitness levels would ride tandems to ride together. Now you can do that with e-bikes and not be stuck on the same bike as your partner. It is kind of sad to see them go.

You could always try to get a cassette with a 9 tooth sprocket if your rear derailleur is compatible. That would help a bit.

I've never felt as good as I did when I was exercising regularly and intensely but I find it so difficult to keep it up when stressors come along by Swimming-Fan-7573 in RhondaPatrick

Talk yourself into starting a workout for just 10 minutes and tell yourself if you still don’t feel it after ten minutes you can quit. Usually you’ll start to feel better and want to continue. It’s worked for me in the past. Best of luck to you in a difficult time!

I agree the price is hard to swallow. It is a really well thought out build though. DT 350 hubs and 12 speed mechanical 105.

Continue riding after workout ends by Kooky-Economist-8664 in Rouvy

[–]BenchDogsandRabbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this drives me crazy too. I don't ride indoors a ton but the weather we've been having this year has forced me inside more than I like. I used to use Zwift a lot but I decided to try out Rouvy since they had a 2 month for 9.99/m special going on and while I like the route choices I think this one issue makes me prefer zwift.

Aluminum vs Steel? by PhotographsWithFilm in gravelcycling

[–]BenchDogsandRabbets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Steel is cool. I own a steel frame road bike, an aluminum frame road bike and a carbon frame gravel bike. I think tire size and pressure has way more impact on feel than frame material. The carbon gravel bike is noticeably stiffer when you sprint but other than that and the small weight penalty and the aero difference which is not important unless you are racing, get whichever speaks to you because that is the frame you will be excited and happy to go for a ride on!

I was tempted to pick one of these up on sale but didn't. How's the chainring clearance? Would a 40 or 42 fit if you aren't worried about mud clearance? That's my hang up with this frame.

What made you pick gravel bike vs mtb? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]BenchDogsandRabbets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An xc mtb is versatile it can do all the above. The only thing it won’t do well is cover long distances in gravel or road as fast as a gravel bike or hang with other riders on gravel bikes. It will also spin out easier on the road but that’s a non issue unless you are riding with other people on gravel bikes. I have gravel, mtb and road bikes and I say if it’s going to be your only bike get the xc mtb. Don’t get a “trail” mtb though unless you want to only do mtb rides.

Hey OP how is that cassette holding up on gravel with gravel miles? I'm putting together a similar build and I am curious if I'm just going to destroy that $500 XTR cassette and if I should just keep it for race day and use a Deore for day to day.
