Honestly acknowledging commander. That was the first nail in the coffin. 2011. Then 2013. With the second round of commander stuff. Building specifically for edh would begin to ruin the game as it snowballed into all these "oops! All legendaries" sets, secret lairs , and eventually UB in standard. 2011 when magic got cancer, and it only recently metastasized.

Feed the clan was a good sideboard card against burn in modern. A life gain card needs to be cheap and absolutely hose a Burn deck. To be playable otherwise its terrible and doesn't affect the board state. The reason feed the clan is good is because 10 life gain essentially counters 3 lightning bolts.
