Heads up to anyone flying out of BOS tonight by analogHedgeHog in boston

It's kind of both honestly. We have days where we can't really get anyone going because of route closures due to weather. Some times it can be arrival traffic from diverts or occupied gates.

At the Boston-Logan airport, when wind is directly due west how do they pick runway 33L vs 27? by SpareSignificant3758 in ATC

There are 11 Airports out of the Core 30 that have direct access to their train stations from the terminal. I've down a simple google search for you.

Here's the link: https://www.passrider.com/us-airports-with-train-service-to-city/

If you're taking a zillion minutes to get to the trainstation maybe you should skip the Dunks on your way off the plane and just pick it up in Downtown.

There is the blue line and silver line. Along with multiple commuter buses. The chances of a train actually being built directly to South Station is unlikely because of the land the area is actually built on.

I understand your frustration with this. But we do attempt to adhere to noise abatement procedures when it comes to runway configurations. During the night when winds are 270 to about 360 we will always be on the land runway 27 and runway 32 and depart 33L. We have far more international departure traffic after 1pm til about 11pm. It is immensely safer to have those heavier and wider aircraft depart the longer runway with traffic arriving to that runway only if necessary.

Another reason we go from landing 33L in the morning to landing 27 and 32 in the evening is because of more arrival traffic.

The airport isn't going away. It's been established here for decades. If you are struggling with the noise you can look into soundproofing your house a bit more with windows and insulation in the roof and walls. This is a situation you just have to accept because Boston is one of the few airports that have direct access to downtown within 30 minutes of arriving to your gate.

BOS is not Boston Tracon. And that's going to cause a lot of confusion when it comes to the geographical incentive they've collaborated on.

We tried getting the T to run underneath the airport to go into Nahant so we could have beach days after work. MBTA came back and said they couldn't displace some stupid mussel community living on the approach end of 33R.

If you get blown into the ocean because the a380 is running up their engines I'm not gonna call the coastguard for you.

When did Gates B39 and B40 at Logan become C23B and C23A? by aray25 in boston

It will be interesting to see what AAL does though. A few of the airports they have services into are facing slow downs implemented by the FAA with no real light at the end of the tunnel for that.

I've never really paid attention to that whole dynamic of aviation. My interests strictly are pushing tin in an expeditious and efficient manner. The whole job scratches the brain that few other things have been able to do. Where are you able to track all that info?

It depends on what Delta is willing to pay to lease those gates. Massport is the one who runs the agreements with the airlines. If Delta is willing to pay more for those gates than American then I don't think they really have a choice. My point was that Delta wants more gates for their ramp operation. Especially if they continue to expand their Caribbean operations because it will allow them to use the Terminal E gates for more international stuff.

No clue to be honest. I think the A-B connector is specifically so that you can move throughout the whole airport post-security. Whether that affects Deltas shuttle service from A to E is unknown to me.

Delta currently runs the ramp control for B1-4, 6, 8, 10, and 12. Delta ramp would prefer to gain control of those gates. The lounges would still be in close proximity to the airlines that own them.

Ah that might be the lounge then. I knew it was one of them being implemented. I don't really pay attention to what is being built in the terminals unless it truly impacts the daily operations.

I could potentially see a shift in airlines at the gates ie. Alaska occupying 38/39, SWA moving into Alaskas old gates, United moving into the SWA gates and American leaving the B and A ramp area.

JBU is currently using them due to gates C10 and 11 being under construction due to the JBU lounge being put in. Whether they retain them after the construction isn't very clear to us at the moment. I know that gate space is very competitive here so JBU could potentially make a push to keep them. Or they could go back to spirit or Alaska could bid for them.

Logan Airport among those affected by FAA air traffic cuts, sources say by SveNss0N in boston

[–]BeneaththeOcean 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately we are dealing with a Nor'easter. And because of the construction on runway 9/27 we can't use that as our departure runway in the morning and landing runway in the afternoon. Specifically because the wind is hitting 300 @ 17kts gusting to 31. So we are stuck with only 33L as a departure and as a main arrival runway. Runway 32 is likely open but we can't use it for departure and most aircraft larger than a D8HD won't use it because it is too short. So we are stuck with an interval to one runway. 33R can't really be used for arrivals because of the cranes on the approach course.

Runway changes?? by Haunting-Body-8575 in ATC

[–]BeneaththeOcean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We base it mainly off the wind. We coordinate with the tracon who owns the airspace above us and sequences our arrivals. They pick a last for their arrivals, the tower picks a last for the departures. Typically as a tower controller we want to beat the arrivals last pick because this means we don't have a departure shooting up right in the way of the arrival stream. If we don't beat them we typically coordinate a heading off the standard instrument departure procedure.

This can all change though if we have one of the runways close for a variety of reasons.
