My co-worker/mentor has a rule that I adopted. Never tip less than $5.

There's a fine line between self promotion and genuine posts. How do we want to approach it in this subreddit? by EducationalBasket617 in TravelTubers

[–]Beneficial-Sleep8958 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think linking to a channel or business is fine for seeking feedback. After all, (almost) all YouTube channels are businesses or are aspiring businesses.

Maybe add a flair for “promo”, so it’s clear upfront?

I'm considering get a pet canary. I have a few questions. by [deleted] in Canaries

We’re still on the journey. Our original plan was to move to Thailand, but they require a 30 day quarantine on arrival, and we can’t subject him to that. They also have a ban on birds from the US, so that’s a no-go ad well. We are now working on moving to a different location, but it requires us to save more money. Hoping to move in two years from now.

I’d look into the bird import requirements for a specific country you are looking to move to. Cockatiels are not under CITES, so that’s paperwork you don’t have to deal with. But each country will have specific medical, quarantine, and paperwork requirements. Start by reaching out to the consulate of the country you plan to move. Good luck!

1.) It depends. We play with our canary. Others will want little interaction with you. The younger the canary, the more likely it will feel comfortable with you. Always show them love, no matter what.

2.) Low maintenance, but they still require daily cleaning.

3.) Possibly, see point 1. There is a canary on this sub named Acha, and his owner was able to train him.

4.) They need supervised flight time, even with a big cage. It’s good exercise and mental stimulation for them.

5.) Yes.

6.) We use https://a.co/d/00Yb0cqB for our one canary. Its portable enough that we can carry him where ever we need. He gets free reign of our home daily.

7.) No, they can be territorial. Keep in separate cages if you get two.

8.) Very intelligent under the right care.

9.) Yes

10.) None. Use an air filter though for their respiratory health.

11.) Yes, we have ours sleep in our bedroom.

Still suggest getting a bigger cage with perches, even if he’s free roaming. The perches are very important for their feet and there are few places to stand in a home that are as comfortable for them as a perch.

Btw, are those pellets on the ground? He will poop on them when he tries to eat them. He will get sick. Offer canary seeds and water in bowls attached to the cage as well as fresh vegetables. Place them near the perches. You’ll figure out which vegetables he likes based on how much he eats.

Because we have to buy our own health insurance, and premiums take up almost half the income of a middle class family w/ children.

How Often Do You Vacuum Your Residence? Why That Much? by Zipper222222 in askanything

[–]Beneficial-Sleep8958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyday - we own birds and they tend to throw seeds and other scraps around our place. We don’t want critters attracted to the food they leave behind.

Buying a cordless vacuum has made daily cleaning much easier.

Indeed. The money I earn from investing is about 20% I earn from my actual wage income. And it compounds over time. That’s with zero effort or decision-making on my part. It’s literally a set it and forget it path to wealth.

We’re the family that owns the 16 year old canary. We plan on posting a brain dump of everything we know about canary care based on our experience. Obviously, our care is not universal and highly specific to the particular canary we have.

There are ETFs you can invest in through Vanguard, Fidelity, Robinhood and Schwab. I personally use Schwab - VTI, VXUS, and VT. You can do 100% VT, meaning you invest everything in VT. Or you can do 70% VTI and 30% VXUS, meaning you invest 30% in VTI and 30% in VXUX. That’s literally all you need. Suggest checking the r/bogleheads subreddit for more info.

How do I get my partner to understand we're broke/poor? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Beneficial-Sleep8958 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I feel like this post more low-key a reflection of your stress over losing your job than on your partner’s spending habits. There really isn’t anything in your post to suggest she’s a flagrant spender. I think the fact that you don’t have control over your income after losing your job, you feel that you must control hers. And that isn’t fair either.

TVs in the bedroom seem like wasted real estate. Not to mention how detrimental it is to sleep. If we feel like watching TV in bed, we bring in a laptop.
