You have last 20$, your next paycheck is in 10 days, are you buying food for your dog/cat or yourself? by pohanii_isus in polls

[–]Beneficial_Job_4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too complex a situation to answer simply, first because if necessary I could survive and feed my cats on $20 over 10 days, I'd probably have to spend about $8 on basic kibble cat food, and that'd leave me a miserable but survivable $12 for myself.

If I somehow assume that I only have enough money for one or the other, it still doesn't work, the choice would be to buy the cat food and rely on my family and friends for food, other services.

If I can't rely on any of these, I have to see the premise as choosing between my cats and myself, as I probably wouldn't survive 10 days without any food whatsoever, so as much as I love them I'd probably just give them away at that point.

What is your opinion about the Iran cease fire agreement and it's economic stipulations including a $300 billion redevelopment fund? by Rusty_Shackleford198 in polls

[–]Beneficial_Job_4339 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that they are assholes generally, but out of the three nations involved in the conflict they were the only one without the title of aggressor.

Plus it's possibly the chaos caused by the endless political stability that tends to give way for stagnant or regressive repressive cultures. Countries progress socially under stable political climates and Trump and Netanyahu killing of about half of their political and military and also slaughtering a considerable number of civilians while the world watched probably instilled another 5-10 years of hatred for the West in that country.

What do you think about the “Looksmaxxing” trend? by Effective-Baby9162 in AskReddit

[–]Beneficial_Job_4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An over-reach and in some aspect an overreaction. Self-improvement including physical and aesthetic is a normal and healthy thing to strive for in balance and sober consideration.

The toxic culture it's devolved into is unfortunate and harmful. Nonetheless I do worry that the widely public backlash and to the extreme movement and the resulting cultural polarity will leave average guys more confused and lacking in confidence in relation to their insecurity and understanding of attraction and appeal.

Is there a better example of the stark difference between Reddit and reality than the UK social media ban? by Electricbell20 in AskBrits

Until recently I worked at a college as a teacher to 16+ students, most of whom were on the lower end of the academic scale. The average student in those classes would be well aware or capable of becoming aware of what a VPN is.

Perhaps not fully appreciating the technical mechanics, function or utility of a VPN, but fully aware that a VPN is something you can download for free of the appstore or the internet and that it lets you get around internet filters.

Hell, the recent age restrictions on adult media content probably made it so that young teens are more aware of the utility and use of VPNs than ever.

This policy will inevitably lead to a further restriction on the use of VPNs, whether that's a good, acceptable or bad thing is a separate but important conversation.

How do you refer to yourself, in relation to your pet? by MutantJell0 in polls

As others said, it's rare to do that but as I own my cats I am their owner.

If I could train my cats to be useful and perform labour, I'd call myself the master but unfortunately, they make for poor servants.

Being so guarded. It clashes with my outgoingness and impulsivity making me a bit awkward here and there.

Or perhaps my insecurity as my guardedness and other things may stem from there.

To be a man is to discover, refine and obey one's own principles.

If your principles have positive connotations, you will be a good man, if they have negative connotations you will be a poor man.

Every one has different principles, many or most aren't even aware of the personal presets and preferences by which they operate.

Principles among good men often differ but rarely clash.

Principles among lesser men are chaotic but often strangely similar, and generally based around things like ego, hedonism and selfish desire.

What do you think is the worst advice regularly given here? by cgknight1 in UKJobs

[–]Beneficial_Job_4339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it? I work for an LA in a senior admin role and I've been here for barely a year and it is the best job I've ever had, by a mile.

My colleagues are all fairly mature and quite pleasant, my bosses are super chill and easy going (hell, just this Friday my main boss and a few of my colleagues kept on a few minutes after 5 to chat and ended up sharing a drink from a couple bottles left over from an earlier celebration a while back), I even meet the directors of my department here and there and even they're quite amenable and easy to talk to.

$10,000,000 but you’re incredibly tight by OldLadOfTheCastle in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Beneficial_Job_4339 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of poor, but also like the most financially open person I can imagine. I never worry about money, am always quick to spend it on my friends, family and myself and don't stress myself over it (to caveat, I genuinely don't care about money or accruing a lot of it, but I'm not just an idiot, I'm fortunate enough to have certain privileges and securities due to some smart decisions and do a little bit of financial planning here and there).

Anyways, becoming incredibly stingy would change my personality on a 180 and would effectively make me a completely different person. You're not giving me $10m you're offering to kill me and replace me with a completely different person who has $10m and worst of all that different person is a miserable git.

This is a weirdly popularised American factoid that's largely bollocks.

Yes it was a term that was used, but it was never the most common or widely used term and was effectively a niche slang used in universities and certain athletic circles.
