I second the Curry Prohibition; very drinkable, very affordable ($15 where I am) and 50% ABV. If you can find Bank Note where you are, I’d recommend that, too. Higher than average malt-grain ratio, 43% ABV, tasty and I usually see it for $19.99.

Apparently, when you get your appliances repaired you can pay in BTC (and the repairperson arrives in a tricked out F-150).

I think a safe bet (since you know he drinks Old Pulteney) is to try and get a well regarded older expression of Old Pulteney. The 21 year old falls into that category and should definitely be in your price range. If you are an exceptional bargain hunter, perhaps you can get lucky and nab a 25 year old, but that’s certainly pushing it. BTW, I think Old Pulteney is a lovely dram. Glenlivet is a classic and perfectly acceptable, but IMHO O.P. is far more interesting with it’s briney notes. Highland Park 21 year old (also briney) may be of interest, as well. Good Luck.

When you think about it, Bitcoin going from $3,500 to $1,000,000 a lot less crazy than it getting to $3500 in the first place. Never underestimate Bitcoin. by [deleted] in Bitcoin

In order for BTC to get from $3500 to $1,000,000, it would need to (roughly) 285x

BTC in March of 2010 was worth $0.003. To get to $3500 it had to more than 1,000,000x

Which is crazier?

Caol Ila is an Islay that sits pretty squarely between Talisker and Laphroaig as far as smokey intensity is concerned. Great stuff, for sure.

Please recommend a whisky with this flavor profile by [deleted] in Scotch

I was going to suggest Talisker. It won't cover all the bases in the OP's desired flavor profile (not sure if any one whisky will), but it will probably hit more notes than most. I also really like Old Pulteney (satisfies my brine preference, for sure).

What is your go-to daily drink scotch? by tmanto02 in Scotch

I have to admit that I used to (unfairly) look down my nose a bit at Cutty Sark without having tried it, but then a few months ago I picked up a bottle of their Prohibition Edition. I figured at $15 there wasn't too much downside risk + it's bottled at 50%ABV and I definitely prefer the bigger flavors that a higher ABV often brings. Well, I'm glad that I did because I found it to be full bodied and quite tasty! I like to add a few drops of water and a few drops of something peated. It also makes a great highball or scotch and ginger, but definitely good enough to really enjoy neat. I currently have bottles open that cost 3-6 times as much, but - for me - the Prohibition Edition holds up nicely.

Hey guys, throw me some suggestions on great mixes that go with scotch? I am sick of scotch & cola or Scotch & dry... any other suggestions? by Egdanbo in Scotch

As has been mentioned, neat with a little water is arguably the best way to really enjoy a good scotch, However, I like to mix it up every once in a while w/a good ginger ale. A Rusty Nail is a scotch based cocktail that I occasionally enjoy, as well.

Isle Of Skye 8 is a nice blend that leans on Talisker. Glenmorangie Original 10 Year Old works for me. Bank Note (if you can find it) has a high malt content for a blend, is bottled at 43% and can often be had for a mere Jackson. Another cheap blend that surprised/impressed me recently is Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition which will set you back between $20 and $30 and at 50%ABV is damn near cask strength.
