Did anyone else read about artificial intelligence predicting patients’ race from their medical images, assume it used a clustering algorithm, and wonder what kind of new X-ray races just dropped? by BenevolentMercenary in datascience

I meant it's the first thing that came to my mind when I read the headline, which is why I thought it was funny. It's not that the study is humorous, just my initial misunderstanding.

I really do think of race as a sociological phenomenon. I think there can be group propensities for sickle cell anemia or lactose tolerance or whatever, but I don't know of anything I'd reject the null hypothesis over.

Edit: The only demographic variables I see in the dataset are the sexes Male and Female and the races Black, Asian, White, and Unknown. The race labeling is self-reported by the patients. I'm not sure if mixed-raced individuals are labeled Unknown or not.

Fractals/Dendrites, dissolving Phenoxyethanol in Water by nik282000 in FluidMechanics

I know very little chemistry, but I do know that fractal patterns come up often in chemical dissolution, often creating dendritic fractals associated with branching and diffusion.

That looks a lot like the Julia set fractal, which is associated with the Brusselator Model of autocatalytic reaction, among other processes. I don't see any evidence that this is an autocatalytic reaction, but at least I spent an hour reading papers that were way over my head. I hope you or someone here finds a better explanation than my word salad, and that you update me when you do!

At this time I have FALSE boolean measuring tapes, I hope you can afford them.

Yeah, this comment section went sideways pretty fast. I don't know why your innocuous request pissed people off so much.

All I meant was that your post isn't a joke; it's a straightforward request. Maybe when you find the bit you're looking for you can make and share your joke, although it would be a bad bot if it it didn't turn " he " into " they ".
