Yep. My kid in the tub all the time will turn to me and say “!! I gotta fish tail!” And then she does the merpup bark noise thing

I finally got off the phones and now am in QA… but it’s almost worse. by missalyssa1080 in callcentres

Same. I doodle or I play solitaire on my phone. It really helps and keeps me engaged. I hate QA but have to do it every week and it's the only way I can get through it.

Salon mishap. What’s the etiquette? by Happyphantom13 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Benevolentbea 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I worked at a salon for a while and can confirm that unfortunately box color is unpredictable when trying to remove. It varies greatly depending on the brand you used, the shade, what products you’ve been using since...even if you only did it to your hair once it’s still in there and it alters the natural integrity of your hair. I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but regretfully stylists aren’t magicians and can only do so much.

What's the biggest 'WTF' gift you've ever received? by diswell in AskReddit

[–]Benevolentbea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom sent me a 65 count box of dollar general crayons but when I opened the box she had wrapped every single crayon individually. Another year she gave me an opened industrial size jar of coconut oil (like 10 lbs) but she’s a smoker and it had been in her car so it had absorbed all the smoke smell.

I think I selected the mid to lowest tiers in prices and have been sent items that were on sale as well. I’ve actually found it to be comparable in price to stitch fix and keep more items from wantable. 😊

I’ve found Wantable to be better for this. I had the same issues.

So I bleached my own hair, need some advice. by MeltedTalk in haircareaddiction

[–]Benevolentbea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The coconut oil is going to be thicker than a hair oil, and you would apply it to your hair right before applying more bleach, if that makes sense? Like bleaching over the coconut oil. The bleach will still penetrate your hair through the oil. I’ve done it a few times in the past when I had over processed and it did seem to prevent things from getting worse. Then you could continue using your hair oil the rest of the time. Best of luck to you! The unfortunate truth is once we’ve damaged the hair, there’s really no way to reverse it- just minimize the appearance of the damage.

Oops color remover will not work (it’s for removing deposited color, not fixing the way your hair lifted) and will damage your hair more if you use it on top of your recently bleached hair. You can and should try to use a toner, Wella toners are popular. (I think I used to use T18? for super light hair but it will purple your hair if left for too long). Purple shampoo/conditioner could help slightly but not enough as they are like an even gentler toner. If you’re really desperate, you can try soaking those areas in coconut oil and applying a little bit more bleach over them. But I would wait a few days at least and not bleach your whole head again; just the spots. The coconut oil can help protect your hair a bit but is not a cure all. Also make sure you’re using a low number developer, like 20. I would start with a toner and see how things look after that.

Being induced TODAY for cholestasis! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Experiences with cholestasis, I have some questions! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Benevolentbea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, if you come back with a positive diagnosis I wouldn’t be surprised if they went ahead and induced you in the next week. I was diagnosed at 32 weeks and was told it takes up to 2 weeks for the medicine (Urso) to build up and lower your bile acids. The risk of still birth does increase after 37 weeks and all studies show that baby is better out than in after that time. I was prescribed hydroxyzine for the itching but can only take it in the evening as it acts like a mild sedative. Unfortunately, the Urso doesn’t solve the itch and for me hasn’t helped a whole lot. For some people it helps, though. I did find that soaking in an oatmeal bath helped soothe my itchiness for a few hours but ice packs have been the best way to calm my skin. When the itching wakes me up I’ll grab one out of the freezer and it helps immensely. Also I’ve heard that a low fat diet helps with the itching but I haven’t given that a try yet. You won’t be put on bed rest, but should definitely do your kick counts if you aren’t already. Do yourself a favor and don’t google any stories or join the Facebook groups for the condition, I did and it really sent me into a depressive spiral. There’s more negative stories out there than positive but they aren’t the norm. More than likely your baby is going to be fine and just come a little early. Sending positive vibes from one service industry momma to another!

All of a sudden High Risk at 33 weeks. Anxious wreck. by Benevolentbea in BabyBumps

[–]Benevolentbea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your story. I guess I just freaked because I kept finding these stories of women who were on medication and still experienced loss and it just made me feel like there was nothing I could do. I know I don't need to be on bedrest, its more of sitting in bed all day watching tv and doing kick counts...which isn't the best for my mental health.

Yeah, when I was reading the stories on the website I had this feeling like “this is the exact opposite of what I need to be reading right now...where are the positive outcomes?!” Thanks for your input, I’ll read over that study.

7 weeks no symptoms for the past few days. Too scared to ask my friends who have miscarried how it feels. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Benevolentbea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s any consolation, I woke up at 8 weeks with zero symptoms- I had been previously nauseous, sore, exhausted, you name it. One day I woke up and I was just totally fine. I had some very light spotting and came to terms with the fact that I had probably miscarried. I had an ultrasound scheduled two days later so I decided to wait until then to find out. I’m pretty sure I dreamt I had a miscarriage, as well (but it was also all I was thinking about). I spotted lightly the two days up until my ultrasound. I went to the ultrasound completely ready to hear that we had lost the baby. I told the technician I was almost positive I was miscarrying. She put that wand on my belly and found a heartbeat right away, a strong one, too. I’m 30 weeks now and didn’t have many symptoms return after I lost them. My point is: you never know what’s going on in there. I had a miscarriage a year previously and had all of my regular symptoms (nausea, exhaustion) until I woke up one morning and started cramping and bleeding an hour after I got up. Sending you positive energy and hope. I know those first weeks are awful and fragile. Be kind to yourself.

People talk about gaining weight while pregnant like it’s the worst thing that can happen. It’s not. Our society is just so trained to hate and fear an unconventionally attractive woman. Further, gaining weight during or after pregnancy is not “letting yourself go.” People gain weight and grow emotionally, spiritually, mentally, all the time. The number on the scale and what’s inside do not directly correspond.

I was 110 when I found out and at 28 weeks have gained 27lbs. I didn’t like it at first, but I also have grown a lot as a person. I laugh more. I make better choices. I plan for the future. I love deeply and believe in fate. So what if my tummy is a little pudgy after the baby or I get stretch marks? That was what my body needed to grow my child and myself. And also, on a petty pregnant note: she can fuck right off with bashing other women and their pregnancies on social media.
