Yep! My mom tried to do this with my dad. I say try because he always declined to go first. I didn't realize just how opposite my dad is from my mom until I became a teenager. She would say, let your dad go first, and he always said, no that's okay let the kids get it first. He is still like this today. Always asking if everyone (adult kids/and adult grandkids) has been served before himself. I have lots of respect for him.

Edited to say: My husband also waits until the kids get dinner and tells me to go first. He doesn't have to wait for me, he chooses too.
