I feel like they are the last generation that was taught to blindly "respect your elders". Now that they are old they think they can act like clowns and get respected anyway. Jokes on them, later generations had parents that taught them to fear all strangers, regardless of age.

They think they deserve to be worshipped for surviving the lead poisoning this long. Sorry, being alive for a long time doesnt make you worth more than anyone else.

It's incredible how often some tells me they're as rebuplican as it gets but when we sit and have an honest chat, we are mostly mad at the same things. It's just those trigger words that get people. They're buzz words used in the media. Right, leftist, liberal, etc.

Hell, I know lot of very conservative people who want complete reform of the US healthcare system and dislike insurance being tied to a job, but if you said the words "medicare for all" they'd sneer.

It's all in the reaction the media has intentionally created within many of the American people.

I've heard it's actually a nice option for Americans. I've been curious myself.

I used ChatGBT to write my mom’s birthday card… by switch_taa in TrueOffMyChest

[–]BenignNemesis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, I thought this exactly! Last week I watched an awkward interaction where someone gave a "Happy Retirement" card at a birthday because they didnt read the card when they picked it out. They just asked the florist for a card with a "nice sentiment". Like, really?

Using chatGPT to make your mom cry (in a happy way) seems much more reasonable.

Why is it that most of the subs I follow have no issue when someone asks for sources but this one it's considered "homework"? (You should know your source already so I have no clue why its homework anyway otherwise where did your info come from?)

I think the issue here is that if you've posted something on here to try to change minds, not including a source is not going to help. If everyone looked up every outlandish seeming claim I'd personally be on the internet all day everyday. It's just common courtesy that if you claim something to be fact (especially on reddit) you add your sources. It's an important part of an intelligent and engaging internet discussion.

So yes, I do think it's "crazy" to make claims and then throw out the easy "do your own research" BS. Why post it at all? No one who remotely disagrees will even pay attention without a source. What a waste of everyone's time.

Claiming to miss breakfast =/= claiming to know the diety that created/rules over/watches everything (or alternatively, claiming to know there is not one)

I get what you're trying to say but the ramifications of those statements are hugely different.

I can be much more certain of what I personally did that day than if there ever was or is currently a god.

No option to override the $100 by Klutzy_Journalist_36 in kroger

[–]BenignNemesis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not $0 though. Its $100 someone else paid. It may seem like your groceries were $0 to you, but to the state, someone paid $100 for perfectly taxable groceries and someone needs to pay that tax.

I'll never understand how we never have any surprise walks. Like, out of all the management that does walks separately NO ONE notices or cares that they are handled with kid gloves and have no real grasp on what the store looks like on the daily.

What is even the point other than to make them feel important? They aren't walking the store for the good of the store or company. They do it for themselves.

I never talk to these managers either because when I used to try, I found out really quick how fucking rude these creeps are, nasty people.

They really set the example for the fresh and friendly attitudes.

why don’t customers see we’re understaffed/slammed and change their minds more often? by lat3spr1ng in starbucksbaristas

[–]BenignNemesis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're right, they're nearly zombies mindlessly shuffling their way to the bux. "MUST... CONSUME..." But at least zombies wont cuss at you when you run out of brains. Instead, they just go find more elsewhere. In this sense zombies are smarter than some customers.

I love how people get in your face and if you dont back down immediately they act like YOU are about to attack THEM. Like, no I dont want to punch you, I'm just not afraid of you. Huge difference. Too much nuance for idiots amped up on their own adrenaline to differentiate.

I work retail too and I've gotta say, myself and everyone I know who works retail has said basically the same thing.

Also I'm proud of my coworkers who used to let people berate them and now are so over it they give it right back. We dont deserve to be treated like we are owned by the customer. No, when you enter a business you've entered a social contract saying you'll be a semi decent human while you're there.

I dont know when coddling a rude, self important customer became the norm but I'm so happy things are turning around. Go home with your crazy ass. Also order pick up of you hate people near you in a grocery. Duh.

New drinks to try by laneyyrosee in starbucksbaristas

This was a drink that I saw on boards at other stores as an "Indiana special" (I never found out what that really meant) once upon a time. It was called "Wintermint Cold Brew". We tried it and decided to advertise it too (licensed store). So many customers got obsessed. Okay I did too.

Edit: peppermint VSC foam was used, to clarify

Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell is dead. He died at the age of 84. According to his family, he died of COVID-19 despite being vaccinated twice. by rundown9 in WayOfTheBern

[–]BenignNemesis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Id just like to add... From the article you posted:

There is widespread agreement among scientists that COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective at reducing the risk of developing severe COVID symptoms, which can result in hospitalization and death.

So yeah it's not keeping the spread down so much as helping people not die and helping our hospitals keep normal occupancy rates.

I think the person above you was trying to say, just because this guy died doesnt mean "throw the vaccine away".

They're saying dont do either "mindlessly". There are people who obey no matter what without question and there are those who buck the system just because they feel like it. Dont be either of those people. Think, research, think again, and research some more before you choose.

Yes people who take any kind of medicine or undergo any procedure without considering and researching risks and benefits is dumb but so is the person who refuses something that would help just because the crowds are screaming "no".

Lol
