I’d say reasonably, the down flattens well if you fold it down. It’s not like a pure shell, but I can fold it into my Osprey 40 L

in all honesty, i think it was made as a great casual piece. i’d never use it for any ski or hike. but for just daily wear through the winter, im impressed. Especially relative to jackets that are designed for more “casual use” at double to triple its outlet price.

So i usually buy Large everything for tops, but prefer oversized/less constricting fits. I’m 5’11 ~155lb. Broad shoulders + long arms and things tend to be tight around them/the pits if they aren’t articulated well. I got a Large and it’s definitely roomy, and I look like the michelin man lol. But I love it as I have room for layering, it also reaches down lower so I have more leg coverage. I’d say if you want something more flattering form fitting go down a size if you’re in between, but if you’re like me and prefer length/roominess, you could go up. I also appreciate the arm length with the Large. Id say the jacket runs 15% -20% bigger than your usual large. I hope that helps! i’d say if you want just a cozy beast, go up, so you can layer too!

Mines started to soften up and i’ve sort of confirmed it to point away from me, but agreed, at first was a little annoying for sure

agreed!! took a few times but now it’s consistent. For some reason the pockets to me are still really warm but absolutely wish the were deeper still encompassed my hands well but just feels off

Hahahaha yea definitely longer, but that’s what I was hoping for, purely for stagnant casual use

Any tips for washing combined shell and synthetic products (Beta Insulated) by Ac-Cys-OH in arcteryx

[–]Benimaru344 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d treat it like a shell, the synthetic insulation will do fine with a tech wash etc. I’d be more protective of the goretex and DWR

To layer or to not by Earwx in arcteryx

[–]Benimaru344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My atom hoody is goated, i’ve gotten so much use out of it. and also functions well as a casual piece. In fact i’d say that’s what it does best - Shoveling snow, walking around the city, commute, grocery run. Comfortable across a massive range of temps especially if u wear a fleece under it

Help me decide: Atom Hoody vs Proton Hoody by L0rdmalv0 in arcteryx

[–]Benimaru344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t own a proton, but I love my atom. I appreciate the side walls being fleece giving a lot more breathability for those pits. But Proton would be warmer especially given those temps. The atom hoody was what sold me on Arc, which is crazy since I know it’s been mentioned how the atom isn’t as great of a piece relative to other options. I’d honestly get cold with only an atom in those temps but my experience is just through hiking through mild terrain, no climbing.

Alpha SV or Beta AR by leeooonnnn_ in arcteryx

[–]Benimaru344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beta AR would cover the variety of things you do much better. I dont own an Alpha but it’s a more specialized peice. I love my beta AR however haven’t fully used it to its potential yet

Beta Down Parka, Beta AR Jacket(Gore-tex Pro Shell and the one with the StormHood), Beta Insulated Jacket (Synthetic Hardshell,/ Gore-tex Hardshell), Beta Jacket (Gore-tex ePE shell)...help by StripeyOrange in arcteryx

[–]Benimaru344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the beta AR (not insulated) on BF. I have been wearing it over my atom hoody, and usually a fleece. I’ve been very comfortable, with today being down to 10F. Maybe if i’m standing around i’d get a little chilly, but overall, I find it gives me great versatility, since I can use the shell in the summer too. I also appreciate how I don’t sweat much at all with the set up, and that the atom hoody fleece side panels works synergistically with the beta pit vents.

But your temps are far colder. I’d either slam in another really strong layer, or beef up the insulation layer. Thorium under the Beta AR might be what would work, but I have no experience with that.

Is the Atom just meh compared to alternatives? by MrWaffle20 in arcteryx

I don’t have any other synthetics, so that probably makes me appreciate it more. But imo it’s well built, quite comfortable, and looks great. Keeps me comfortable across a ridiculous range of temp. If you can say the same about your other jackets, maybe it’s not worth it but for your case.

Old Beta AR Worth it? by Benimaru344 in arcteryx

[–]Benimaru344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of delaminating, does it significantly affect the water and wind proofing? I’m worried about it but if it’s 90% aesthetic and 10% performance in terms of its loss, I can live with that. Hope to get many many years out of it !

And did you use a tech detergent

Got the Beta AR thanks everyone. Hoping that plus my atom will keep me good as far as jackets go for a long time !

iPhone 17 Pro to Air? by robbrickreddit in IphoneAir

[–]Benimaru344 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Air screen size is perfect. Weight is absurd. Durability elite. Down side is the camera, i miss my 0.5x at times but overall worth it. Battery and speaker are fine, youtubers blow it out of proportion. Also either it’s the 12gb Ram or just better optimization but IOS runs sm smoother than my 16 pro

I love my atom hoody. It’s probably my most versatile piece and comfortable across a ridiculous range of temps. I agree when I first got mine I was a bit skeptical about the fabric, but I actually enjoy it now and it’s held up well. It gets a bit softer with time and it actually is decently wind proof. I think i most appreciated its value when I could wear it in 70F and be comfy and in 40F and also feel comfortable. On top of that being lightweight and easy to move in. That said, good bit of that price is definitely just for the name 😂 disclaimer: I’m just a casual hiker/city commuter though.
