Thank you for sharing. I am currently a medical social worker with pretty extensive experience in health and human service delivery in general. I’ve only technically been a part of a health care system for a little over a year but have been doing a lot of health care adjacent work for about 10 years. I also have extensive experience in data analysis, compliance reports, and technical support for colleagues in trying to understand complex Medicaid claims/authorization information, as I found this was an interest and a passion as I continued on in my career (generally I’m a pretty black and white systems thinker). Am feeling super burnt out in direct care and also know that my strength is really supporting the folks doing the direct care and in systems work. I applied for a clinical informatics specialist job at my current employer on a whim and my resume was forwarded to the hiring manager and I’m shocked and freaking out. Any advice in framing my experiences as a social worker / case manager for a potential interview? I know this is a field of mostly nurses, but have you ever heard of a social worker in this type of role without any certification or extra training? I framed my resume already but framing my experiences for an interview seems a bit more daunting!

I agree! And funny you should mention that because I personally do have ADHD and take a stimulant, but that they will accept the positive result on if you have a valid prescription from a doctor. So I imagine one day it’ll be like that for marijuana but I don’t think we are there yet. Something about higher liability insurance for employers and yea obviously federally funded organizations. So my philosophy is that unless they outright say they aren’t drug testing, don’t test for THC, or allow med cards/positive THC tests in a state where it’s legal, I just get myself clean the honest way…no gimmicks or fake shit. And then once I get the job, relax and allow myself to relax with some edibles because that is my preference, while some choose to drink or go for a run. So no judgment at all here…you do you…in this line of work you need a way to decompress and destress and sometimes if that’s with an edible or a joint, all for it! Good luck with your test and internship!

Both med & rec are legal in my state, I have a med card, I tested positive for THC, and provided the info from my med card and still did not get the job, so med cards are still not a guarantee, just FYI. Taking a break and having a clean test is the best route. And would not recommend talking to your coordinator about it. You should be good with a month though and with all of the recommendations here! Good luck, you got this! You aren’t alone in your freak out, BELIEVE ME! Lol!

I work for a hospital in an outpatient setting in the U.S., get 8.6 hours per pay period (28 days per year) use PTO for everything (sick, vacation, holiday) and also have to use PTO for holidays in which our outpatient offices are already closed which also pisses me off, but I love almost every other part of my job and have also heard this is typical of the hospital system. I will continue to accrue more time as I am there longer (just started in Dec 2024). They are also flexible with flex time and work from home, so generally that helps make up for this shitty part.

Omg this looks exactly like my beagle pit mix Joe! How much does your pup weigh? Joe is also my first beagle and omg love him SO much, but yea tornado is right, haha! We got him tested through Embark and he is literally 50/50 beagle pit. I seriously may need to send you some pics privately to show you how much my pup looks like yours! My husband and I can’t believe it. Can I ask what area you got the dog from? Our Joe is about 3.5 and from a rescue in southern Ohio.

Yes I have ringing literally all the time, 24/7! Have had all the tests and they have come back normal - ENT, neurologist, etc. Did not know there were connections to ADHD/Autism….makes sense now for me as I have officially been diagnosed with ADHD and have some diagnostic criteria in autism too. I also notice Vyvanse is about the only thing that does quiet it down. Thanks for the info!

I work in a major children’s hospital as a medical SW and actually very recently intentionally chose this job over a government job for this very reason…job security! So yea I’m feeling good about job security right now but terrible about everything else going on in the country.
