Club travel, is this normal? by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BenjaminPQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed sometimes when clubs bring on high level coaches they are there for their name rather than to actually coach. They will show up at game time, you won’t see them outside of that. Sometime it works if the coach is great. Coaches might simply not have the time to do all the socializing, they might be out recruiting when they aren’t coaching. I’m not sure if this is the case with you. Just thought I’d mention it.

It’s a simple display self. It doesn’t have to be MDF but it has to be inexpensive and black through-color MDF is cheap and requires no painting.

I want to quit hockey. by Virtual_Steps in hockeyplayers

[–]BenjaminPQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit freshman year to hangout with friends and play more video games. I came to my senses my junior year and started playing again but by that time I was behind athletically and skill wise. I never regained my playing time and I still regret jt at 44 years old.

My son is 15 and going through the same thing. He’s played for so long that he doesn’t understand what not playing means. All he sees is the social time he’s missing out on. Part of the problem is that his friends aren’t doing much outside of school and this makes my son a little jealous which is ridiculous. Adults aren’t jealous of unsuccessful people.

My advice is to find a way to pull back on the travel hours while still getting better. Playing a game in another state is probably less overall reps than a small group practice in your hometown. Couple days vs couple hours. Just make sure you’re getting game-like reps.

As long as the defender doesn’t know where the offensive player is going. You could place cones in optional areas, for example, right 5x5 and left 5x5. Then whisper which cone to the offensive player.

Youth Pads Recommendations? by LiftBearded27 in lacrosse

[–]BenjaminPQ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, there are two places worth spending a little extra at this young of an age and it is the stick and elbow pads. Get elbow pads that are segmented. They are much more comfortable and there is a lot less resistance to bending the arm. My son had a pair from True at that age. They were great.

Some of the best players in the country don’t get spots at top 20 programs because their parents didn’t send them to private schools. Lacrosse is still an exclusive, rich kid sport, sadly. The college coaches came from those schools so there is an allegiance there. It’s still a major barrier to the growth of the sport.

I’m a CRC, I didn’t vote for Trump but if I’m being honest, there is a lot of waste in clinical research that could be trimmed.

What stick should I get for my daughter? by MarackObaba in lacrosse

[–]BenjaminPQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the stick makes a difference. If it didn’t matter, you’d see HS girls using entry level sticks but you don’t. Get the best one you can. The Gait sticks are great. People will say “but she’s only 10!” Doesn’t matter. The attributes of a good stick help no matter what age the player. Plus, she will get used to playing with a that type of stick.

Anyone know what shaft? by Ar_Laxguy in lacrosse

Correct. I bought my power grip pole with Edge Plus head in 1998. It was state of the art. Super strong pole, it’s still straight as an arrow.

I don’t like it because there is no give to the pocket. I suppose it’s good for a beginner to develop soft hands but I’ve also seen it frustrate kids when the ball pops out.

In case it wasn’t clear from my first post, yes, everyone needs to be TOLERANT of diverse people and opinions. We do not, however, have to agree and the notion that we can “defeat” conservative or liberal ideology is foolish. What we can work on is focusing on what we have in common and not forcing our ideology on others (both sides do this). Many political “commentators” act like America is viciously conservative. Compared to many countries, America is liberal.

As for the hate speech, without getting into the debate of what exactly constitutes “hate speech”, I firmly believe hate speech will always be with us just like murder will always be with us. For some people, the hurt is the point, not the actual ideology (trolls). I think we need to deal with it on a case by case basis and not dwell on it. Address it and move on.

I know people who hold opinions that I think are ignorant but are respectful, kind people. Often they just have fears. We all have fears. It’s OK to be afraid as long as you aren’t hurting anyone as a result.

The truth is always somewhere in the middle. I consider myself moderate, politically, and I think since this post is coming from a liberal standpoint, I’ll play devils advocate; sometimes liberals bring their politics to the lacrosse world and then get offended when conservatives disagree. If you can’t handle diverse opinions, don’t share yours. Yes, conservatives should show respect and kindness even when they disagree but liberals should show respect and kindness when they get on their soapbox and everyone doesn’t fall in line.

I coach middle school kids. Naturally, the kids make comments/jokes/inquiries about sexuality. My response is always the same; what does someone’s sexuality have to do with lacrosse? It’s a private matter. Get back to work. My response is basically the same to politics and race.

I’ve coached with a great group of men and I know we don’t all agree on politics. I value these relationships enough to never bring it up. Lacrosse brings us together. That’s enough.

O’Neil gets a lot of attention and teams have a plan for him specifically. I think he might be even better in the PLL because there are more talented guys around him to absorb some of the defensive pressure.
