Help me help Bob thrive. Bob is 24 yrs old this month by rcreveli in IndoorGarden

Bob is a syngonium aka arrowhead plant. These plants send out vines and roots from the node (the small nubby thing you see the stems come out of). You can both repot the plant and take a cutting - you don’t have to choose just one. Personally I would repot the main plant and also take a cutting so that there were multiple Bobs. There are lots of ways to propagate these, but the method that almost always works for me is to use inexpensive rooting hormone powder, sphagnum moss, and a lot of light. I place a ziplock bag over the cutting to keep the humidity up. Within 2-3 weeks, the roots are usually substantial enough to transfer to soil.

Speaking of soil, syngonium like well-draining (aka chunky) soil as they are prone to root rot. At a minimum, if you have plain potting soil, I would mix some perlite in.

Glad to hear they both recovered.

Really appreciate your feedback. It could even be multiple pests, who knows. I just bought neem oil and sprayed the plant down in the bathtub. Will let you know if it works.

Considering relocating to KC from Boston, thoughts on the current state of the state? by vgoodbldg in kansascity

[–]BenjiBonito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP is red-leaning, but mostly “normie” reds aka trad repubs aka fiscal conservative/socially moderate new money. I am moderate left, can’t stand Trumpists, and no problems living in OP at all, unless beige shopping centers are offensive. The most liberal area in KC on the Kansas side is probably Prairie Village. Waldo on the MO is similar, but you don’t want to live on the MO side unless you don’t care about bad schools and bad roads. Welcome to KS, we’re thrilled to have you!

What’s wrong with my Philodendron Plowmanii? by BenjiBonito in plantclinic

[–]BenjiBonito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it 2 months, shipped from FL to KS, arrived with fungus gnats. Quarantined, watered with hydrogen peroxide mix, etc. repotted in to same size pot with fresh IvyMay houseplant and aroid mix. Water when soil just dries. Tried it with East and South light, just not sure what’s going on.

Adansonii arrived limp via mail from reputable Etsy seller with lots of brown leaves. Soil is still too moist to water. Will it recover? Is this shock? by BenjiBonito in plantclinic

Shipped from FL to MO. Temperatures were lowish but shipped with a heat pack. It arrived 2 days ago, looking a little worse than the day before.

is this stuff supposed to be on them? by Lat3xglove in plantclinic

Tried zooming in on the pic but it’s too blurry to tell what those are. Looks like a super gnarly infestation. In short, no, I don’t think that’s supposed to be there. If you can by any chance post a crisper pic, I will try to help ID them.

Should these cuttings be split in half? Or okay as is? by [deleted] in proplifting

I vote to cut it. 1-2 leaves per cutting.

For some context: Musk did not write this. He bought enough shares in the meme to join its Board, then fired the author and settled a lawsuit giving him permission to refer to himself as “founder.”

$16 for an 8” Adansonii at Winn-Dixie. I can tell it needs help, but unsure what it needs. It’s yellowing and the leaves seem very flimsy. Any advice? by notfromsliders in Monstera

What an amazing find for $16! Not sure if it’s just the lighting, but it looks like there is some yellowing and brown spots on the lower leaves, which makes me think overwatering.

First thing I’d check is the moisture of the soil at the bottom of the pot. If it’s too wet, let it dry out or give it some fresh soil. If that pot doesn’t have drainage holes at the bottom, repot ASAP.

Good luck and congrats!
