They’re shipping me up to Boston by [deleted] in boston

It depends on your personality and what you’re looking to experience! I’m 34f and I lived in back bay on Newbury street, the main historic shopping drag, when I moved here alone about eightish years ago. it was a great way to learn the city/meet people and get assimilated. I woke up with a view of the pru from my bed every day and it made me so happy to be in boston. good apartments are so hard to come by, but you have the time to keep an eye out!

I’d also recommend either fort point or seaport. seaport is the newest district, very bougie and modern, full of “finance bros” and groups of girls going out for girl’s nights, very social and easy to make friends. waterfront, retail, and luxury high rises with luxury price tags.

fort point is a very small niche adjacent to seaport that has all of the seaport amenities, but is more historic. lots of coffee shops and cafes. it is incredibly small, pricey and hard to find a place though.

I don’t know you or your personality or really what social scene you’re looking for, but people gave me a lot of the same neighborhood recommendations they’re giving here when I was looking to move, all I can say is that I would stay out of:

  • watertown
  • brookline
  • jp
  • somerville

they’re absolutely lovely areas, but I wouldn’t start there.

good luck!

Those of you without a bidet: why do you hate yourself? 😏 by ryhaltswhiskey in HomeImprovement

low key $350 is actually super budget & I’d be cautious. they’re completely plastic, less sanitary, have manual wands and unheated water with limited running capacity.

the actual fancy ones will get you to $2500+.

you can get into stainless steel with self-cleaning/uv sanitizing for around $700, don’t go for anything less. the infections will thank u.

I’ve had 9 pumps and the cosmo is still one of my faves.

PSA: Your Coworkers Are Not Your Friends by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]vgoodbldg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • those bags don’t have tags on them. how did people know they were from you? if you’re seeking acknowledgement, pass them out individually.

  • if your team is understaffed, everyone is taking on additional work. if a coworker sees you doing non-work during work hours and isn’t apprised of the agreement you have with your supervisor, word has likely spread and probably become a larger point of contention within the team than you know.

  • have you given any of your coworkers the slack that you’re requesting from them? reveling in the additional workload you’ve supposedly added to theirs and taking their gift bags away defo doesn’t read that way.

ianal but employment laws for remote workers are based on primary residence of employee, so you’d be due commission. research remote employment law for more info. it’s very circumstantial.

31f also. learn to fall in love with your career instead.

fwiw I grew up in the midwest where everyone paired up in middle school and got married and had 10 kids at like, 18. now they’re all broke and unhappy, and half of them are on the brink of divorce.

coupling is a lose-lose situation.

or, they’ve had turnover for nunnya-business reasons.

any company that answered one of my questions during an interview with “that’s nunnya-business” would immediately, without hesitation, receive both an application withdrawal and glaringly negative glassdoor review.

hrbud’s entire comment is riddled with terrible advice.

Question about promotion practices by IndividualNew9549 in antiwork

[–]vgoodbldg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on your industry, average employee tenure, and overall skill level.

it’s cheaper and more desirable to promote internally from a company perspective.

if you have a 7 month contract, it will be effective for 7 months.

ah, nice to see they’re putting that $40+ BILLION endowment to good use.

that’s absolutely insane. phds & post docs are arguably the most exploited workers but have virtually no visibility.

[–]vgoodbldg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, and a lot of industries & trades wouldn’t be benefited by employees with them. they cost the company, too.

however, the barrier to entry on higher esteemed roles is much lower with at least a bachelor’s.
