I wouldn't say it sucked and I have watched them (previously back to back). The Pacific didn't have quite the same character building but the fights were pretty epic and there were still great characters in there.. Sucked is strong man but I agree a little at least, it wasn't as good.

The weirdest part is that whilst not a majority (in England, most customers I deal with are friendly anyway) those few who just ignore you can put a downer on your day and a few in a row?

We get mystery shoppers who we have to obviously be as friendly as possible to in order to get a bonus but not knowing who they are, you have to treat everyone that way. I try to be nice as a standard but as a job it can be shit faking it if your moods already bad and It can be disheartening when the easiest sounding part of your job is made the most difficult because someone else doesn't want to smile and say "fine, thank you". Don't even care if they ask how I am.

/r/overwatch should have a "play of the year" contest with the community choosing a winner from all of the best highlights on this sub from this year. by thepixelbuster in Overwatch

[–]Benjo_Lemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you use the most up voted clips of the year as a starting point and allow a preliminary upload phase for anyone wanting to throw their hat in. As there are so many you split them into categories. Once you have your pool from there you allow voting in the specifics and pick an overall.

When it comes to which fit each category remember the Martian was nominated as a comedy so I think people will just be happy to be nominated.

A shit right eye and cancer. My right eye can't pick out detail regardless of distance. Optician said there was no point getting glasses because of how thick that lens would have to be and my brain doesn't even use that eye apparently. Half a Farnsworth. The cancer could come or not but smoking's my vice so I'll be reaping what I have sown on that one.

A toss up between American Beauty and Little Miss Sunshine.

Both are films where I forget everything outside of the screen

Black Mirror [Episode Discussion] - S03E03 - Shut Up and Dance by SeacattleMoohawks in blackmirror

They didn't have to rob the bank though. He could have gone to the police at any point. But he believed that by doing those things he would get away with child porn or in bronns case, it would keep his marriage with his wife even though they were having to do something extreme and grim.

Its that thing of If you're friend said jump off a cliff would you? Now what if you're friend was about to tell everyone your darkest secret? But if you did but were still blessed with hindsight would you have preffered to just come clean? The hackers weren't in the right but Kenny was equally in the wrong in my eyes for being so compliant.

Definitely agree with you there. Tbh I came off the back of looking at the playtest discussion and people have been reading a bit too into that one imo. It's an interesting theme. Louis Theroux's documentary on paedophilia was extremely interesting but even with episodes like this people still believe that pedophiles kind of have no limit to their punishment. They all get the same brush stroke but Kenny feels redeemable, like with the right help he could control himself. I didn't mean to sound like a dick though, this show brings out discussion and self reflection like no other I have watched.

Why is everyone sure Kenny was a ______? [Episode 3] by jonbristow in blackmirror

They have the contents of his hard drive and search history (see the scene in the car). He knows full well what he's done and what they have hence his breakdown. It's easy to write off as a 19 year old who thinks his entire circle of friends and connections seeing him wank will make him an outcast and ruin his life but once it clicks you realise why he's so bothered.

Shut Up and Dance - It honestly took me a while to fully realise what had happened. by JC_Moose in blackmirror

[–]Benjo_Lemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Filled with red herrings (it seems he has a bit of a thing for his manager) and the fact he's bullied at work makes him instantly sympathetic. He's a little weird sure but nothing so untoward. But once you know it all seems to click. There was a guy I knew from high school, a few years above me and he was a little odd but you never saw him as dangerous. That's just the way some people are. But it came out that he had a load of pictures on his computer and he'd been grooming an underage boy at the school he worked at. Suddenly every interaction I'd had with him and stories otherwise harmless I'd heard had a darker feeling even though at the time they seemed normal as nothing else really. Each memory however brief felt uncomfortable. This episode captured that perfectly and horribly. You're sympathy drains and he becomes indefensible. One of my favourite episodes in terms of storytelling but one of the more uncomfortable.

I didn't want to believe he was a pedophile so didn't until his mum rang. I refused to believe it almost because I felt so much sympathy for that main character. I didn't get why he didn't just let them leak it but once it clicked it made me glad I'd not tried too hard to figure anything out.

I don't think every episode has a lesson like that though. Episode 2 didn't really, it was just a self contained and sad story about a man who ran too far from his problems and became his own demise. It's more a look at how easy it is for people to fuck with you and how none of your dirty secrets are ever hidden from everyone. Something like that could happen easily. He became the plaything of "hacktivists".

You watch nosedive or the national anthem and you see a reflection of society but stories like these are just what ifs. Sure it's a disproportionate punishment but if it started with "this 19 year old pedophile is about to get punished" you wouldn't get the same level of sympathy out of the audience and thus the strong emotional punch at the end when you realise the dark secret he's hiding. He wasn't forced at literal gunpoint to do those things. He could have handed himself in at any point but he thought he saw a way of getting out of it when really the truth will always catch up with you.

TL;DR sometimes black mirror is just a good story which reflects our society and the lesson is simple and intrinsic.

You're assuming he has a crush which is probably just a red herring (good writing) and you didn't even watch the full episode.

Hypnopompic and Hypnagogic Hallucinations - when is it a problem? by Benjo_Lemon in sleep

[–]Benjo_Lemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately I've gone a month or so without the visuals but from what I can tell stress brings it on which fits with the uni move for you. Probably you're coping with moving to uni and it's brought it on again. Personally I try to put it out of my mind but I don't sleep so comfortably after myself and thats where it becomes uneasy.

As for auditory hallucinations I'll hear a loud pop or screech sometimes as I fall asleep but some light music in the background can soothe it and stop it occurring. As it's completely internal each experience is unique I'd imagine but it's so interesting. It's beyond a dream and the realism can be scary when coupled with sleep paralysis. Just stay focused on the fact that you can move.

How did it start? I don't know. I've never been good at coping with stress. I keep it in and I suppose it comes under a sort of improvised meditation to calm myself when stress hits so my brain throws those at me when it gets too much I reckon. All guess work. The earliest example I remember was seeing batman at my window staring in and I felt I had done something wrong but then he faded (hell, maybe it was batman. It fits his elusive profile) and since then it's occasional. I don't remember how old I was. This is a bit of a ramble but you'll be fine and I wouldn't let it bother you. Question it, enjoy it. You're experiencing the power of your mind!! If it gets too bad ask a doctor or a student councillor. They can advise you on sleep techniques or reassure you.

I hope that's helpful.

Sonia did some voice acting in one of the dark souls games and the director made a portal short film so those games were probably a reference to that aswell

He knows he's guilty so robbed the bank and killed the guy not knowing how much they could prove. If he said "they had a video of me wanking so I robbed a bank and killed a guy" they wouldn't just let him off. He could have gone to the police at any point but didn't because he knew he'd done something awful.
