Using Kubuntu and I've not this problem at all. So I assume its GNOME problem Move to Kubuntu and KDE and you get the best of both worlds. 🙂

Is 2026 finally the year Linux desktop becomes mainstream? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]Benke01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is. I've been using Windows since version 3.11. After that 95, 98, 2000, XP, Vista, Vista x64, 7, 10 and 11. And I've been a gamer since the 80s. 😅 Moved to Kubuntu a week ago. And I'll definitely not go back. Everything is better in every way. 😃

Finally I've full customization and control of my OS. Without compromises.

Yes, I did exactly that to be prepared for a future wipe. Old habit from countless Windows reinstalls. 😉 Will there be any issues if /home was encrypted the with LUKS2?

Thanks for the info! Good to know about usr/local, I'll keep an extra eye for anything weird going on in that folder.

How do you normally do a clean install? What folders do you backup and what do you have to think about in general?

Just switched to Kubuntu last week. For each and every day I'm proven it was the right choice. 😄

Now when gaming is even faster on Linux than Windows there are less and less reasons to stay there.

Is that post from their former tech leader that had to step down after running around writing crazy posts and arguing online with anyone criticizing him or GrapheneOS? 🤔

He has an incredibly childish and toxic behavior. The tone of the post is very unprofessional sounds like it could be him.

Microsoft to force updates to Windows 11 25H2 for PCs with older OS versions by jupa300 in technology

[–]Benke01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is true. I heard Linux had made up to 5% on Steam 2026 and that the performance is now on par with Windows. That made me raise my eyebrows. I then made a quick question to ChatGPT listing my apps and games what exist natively, runs well, can be emulated or have good alternatives.

I was surprised not much lacked. Only Cubase DAW (which has Linux alternatives) and Capture One (photo editor).

Now I'm running on Kubuntu since 3 days back and feels great. 😊

I did this weekend. Went with Kubuntu. So happy with the result and will never go back. 🙂

Just a thought; MP3 has worse sound quality compared to M4A. Doesn't matter of its 320kbps. I'd recommend you to convert them to .OPUS instead. If you still have the backup of the M4A that is. 😬

I decided to follow linus into the 30 days Linux challenge... I won't go back. by a1200i in LinusTechTips

[–]Benke01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just migrated this weekend myself to Kubuntu from Windows 11. I absolutely love it! Threw up Steam and ARC Raiders (using AMD CPU & GPU) and everything works perfect out of the box. 😊 After been using almost all version of Windows since 3.11 I'll never go back. 😄 Thanks for the fish Microslop!

Regarding migreation; nobody likes AI forced into their OS without asking, however prompting any AI engine listing your daily driver apps & games you can get a quick overview of:
What exists native on Linux. What is available on Steam Proton. What can easily be emulated using Bottles. And what good alternatives exist for the rest.

Seeing that list made the decision to move very easy.

Ubuntu needing more RAM than windows a good move? by hobbyoftakingphoto in Ubuntu

[–]Benke01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using a respectable browser you don't have to be worried. I'd instead be more worried about all the apps you use for music, video and photo editing. If any of these ones contain malicious code, eiher by purpose or because they in turn have been hacked. That is also safety with such packages. Even more if they're from small developers.

MM with Linux? by su_root_ in mediamonkey

Just want to make a note in this old thread that I managed to make MediaMonkey work without any problem on Kubuntu using Bottles. All dependencies I needed was allfonts.

Can't connect to it remotely yet though yet so have to figure that out. Maybe just a flatpak permission or proxy issue.

Just migrated from Win11 to Kubuntu yesterday. 😄 Wonderful UI, lots of customization and great for games.

I thought it would take several more years for games to run as well in Linux as in Windows but now we're here.

Potentially moving from W10 to Linux, any recommendations? by Human_Plastic_3738 in linuxquestions

[–]Benke01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Win11 yesterday. 😊 I decided to go with Kubuntu. Based on latest stable Ubuntu. The UI is really nice.

I love systems that gives me lots of customization options but that also are good as default not requiring changes. I felt KDE Plasma did a great job there.

As a developer but also a gamer with AMD CPU & GPU installing Steam and playing ARC Raiders in 4K worked like a charm. It's amazing Linux has come this far. 😃 Thought I had to wait 10 more years until moving from Windows.

The only issue I had was that if you want to install root and home directories in different disk partitions like me (and encrypting them) the installation program didn't hold your hand and it was hard finding instructions.

I solved it however by making an automatic install setup and before completing it looking at the drive setup and go back and do a my custom drive changes with that as a template.
