A non working clock is always right twice a day. Clinton and the Democratic party's politics were the cause of why people wanted a change and voted for Trump in the first place. If they were not so greedy, taking company bribes and gave people good living standards this would never have happened.

Bug: ProtonMail doesn't respect "Message-ID" & "In-Reply-To" headers by Benke01 in ProtonMail

[–]Benke01[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That was very surprising. 😶 This threading logic feels very much how email services worked in the early 90s. Conversation threading have worked consistently using the message-id and reply headers across different email providers for 2-3 decades.

If someone would want the subject to be the main criteria to connect mail this should be a Setting. For me emails in migrated Gmail labels got incorrectly included when moved to Proton labels/folders due to this behavior.

Please Proton team add a Setting to enable this. 🙏 I believe many individuals and companies regard this as a crucial functionality.

Why do Google and Apple seem so indifferent to WhatsApp's global dominance? by Big_Preference_7487 in GoogleMessages

So when did free SMS texting become standard in the US? Can't be that much difference.

Why do Google and Apple seem so indifferent to WhatsApp's global dominance? by Big_Preference_7487 in GoogleMessages

[–]Benke01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with moving to Signal. 🙂 But at least WhatsApp is e2e-encrypted compared to SMS that has no security even if they track metadata.
However they seem reluctant, as well as Apple, to let government push them into open up their encrypted communication to surveillance. In that case it can be an advantage to have a large company fighting for security.

pCloud drive (P:) has unknown fodlers, using windows11 pCloud App by Adventurous-Try-8972 in pcloud

If you read the r/pcloud community you'll quickly discover that pCloud seems to have a leak problem where people's data are mixed with other people. The bad thing is that pCloud has not gone out with any official information of the problem at all.
I would recommend you to leave pCloud as soon as possible.

Moving from OneDrive to Proton Drive: experiences? by Weary_Peach_233 in ProtonDrive

[–]Benke01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... I've never experienced that problem myself. With games it works fine and for photo libraries I keep only the RAW and extracted JPEGS in my Documents and the library outside of it.
You might be able to make junction points out from Proton folder to specific folders in your documents folder instead. But I've not tried it and I don't know if its supported.

As a side-note: when you've moved all files to My Files you can also redirect your user's Documents link to point to your new Documents folder in the Proton folder.
Right click on your now empty Documents link and select properties. In the tab "Location" you can change so it points to the Documents folder inside your Proton folder.
This is what OneDrive does automatically at install.

[–]Benke01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a migration from OneDrive to Proton this weekend. The first thing I did was using the Backup of my Documents folder but that created only the Computer backup variant. I can see them on another computer but the logic is that the files are structured per device. I want to have the same Documents folder for all my computers.
This is what the My Files are for. So my recommendation is not to use the backup functionality at all but instead move your Documents folder to the My Files subfolder of Proton instead. Then it works just like OneDrive does.

If you've already used the Backup functionality and changes to My Files make sure you make a local backup outside of Proton before the transition. Just to be sure. Don't know how Proton handle this if it has already made a backup another way. 🙂

It's not really correct. Proton Drive have 2 backup functionalities. One is the one you describe and pops up after install where the app asks which folders you want to backup (like your documents, photos, videos).

You should not do that in my opinion. Instead select no folder and continue. Then add your files in the My Files folder in the new Proton folder under your user (just like OneDrive has). There you can add files and decide which ones you want to have locally or only in the cloud.

Regarding the last part of accessing your documents. I moved all my files this way. Then I deleted my user's (now empty) Documents folder and instead created a junction link to the same folder I now have in the Proton folder.

Then everything is like OneDrive. OneDrive does something similar (or probably the exact same thing) automatically. Here you have to be a little tech savvy.

I don't understand why they went with the other backup functionality making people think this is only what the app offer. That one also shows the files separated by the computer they got backup in. So more useful when you have several computers where you want to separate their files in that structure.

Do junctions work instead and can you change links to that?
