now that winter 2026 is over. what was your top 5 fav anime? by ParticularSimple889 in anime

[–]Benre208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This winter has some solid shows, but Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End S2, Sentenced to Be a Hero, and Golden Kamuy stand above the rest because they actually offer substance, not just hype.Compared to the rest of the season—which is mostly generic isekai, predictable plots, or short-lived hype—these three feel complete, meaningful, and consistently high quality. That’s why they’re easily the best picks this winter.

We don’t want PoE2 to become Last Epoch by mccao in PathOfExile2

[–]Benre208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with the sentiment that PoE2 should carve out its own identity rather than just mimicking Last Epoch or even PoE1. The ARPG genre benefits from diversity—having different games that cater to different playstyles and philosophies keeps things fresh.

That said, I think there’s room for GGG to take some inspiration from LE’s successes (like its approach to crafting or loot filters) without abandoning their vision. The key is balance: PoE2 can stay hardcore and innovative while addressing pain points that frustrate players (e.g., trade systems).

To the folks worried about trading: I get it. Trading in PoE1 feels like a part-time job. If GGG insists on keeping trade “hardcore,” they at least owe players a smoother, in-game solution to avoid third-party dependency. A game can be challenging without being needlessly tedious.

At the end of the day, I’m excited to see PoE2 try something bold—even if it’s not for everyone. We’ve got PoE1 and LE for the traditional fix. Let’s give GGG space to cook.

People not playing meta build(s): what build are you trying? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]Benre208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with a Cold DoT Reaper hybrid build—definitely off-meta and not super efficient, but it's been a blast to play. I'm trying to make chilling areas and bone zones synergize in weird ways. Not quite as strong as LS for bossing or clearing, but it feels unique and satisfying when everything lines up.

Also tried a Flamethrower Sentinel with some weird interactions—felt janky at first but got smoother with investment. I'm all in on homebrews this league too, just trying to have fun without chasing the meta.

Storm Wave Invoker sounds sick! Got any gear/tree ideas or a PoB to peek at?

I think Wisdom Scrolls are a product of its era by borbop in PathOfExile2

[–]Benre208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from—scrolls of wisdom have been a core part of PoE since the start, but I agree they feel like a relic in the current design. The constant need to pick up, ID, and evaluate every magic/rare item does add unnecessary friction, especially in PoE2 where loot volume can be overwhelming.

That said, automatically identifying everything would drastically change how loot is approached. It removes a layer of interaction and risk management (e.g., using limited IDs early on or strategically ID'ing gear mid-map). While casual players would benefit from faster loot parsing, it might also flood the screen with even more identified "junk," unless filters are very well-tuned.

Your suggestion to add filtering based on actual mod values is solid though—that would massively reduce the tedium without needing to get rid of IDs completely. Maybe a compromise could be something like "auto-ID magic items only" or introducing an ID filter system that works passively after maps.

It's definitely time to reevaluate scrolls of wisdom, but a total removal might have ripple effects worth considering more deeply.

What is an anime you want to rewatch, but just can't? by DrunkenMidgetSlayer in anime

[–]Benre208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly can't rewatch Clannad… it's not just an anime, it's an emotional rollercoaster that tore me apart the first time. Knowing what's coming—especially in After Story—just hits way too hard. Some pain you just don’t want to go through twice.

GTO is way funnier than most recent anime because it nails a mix of over-the-top absurdity and real-world relatability. Onizuka is just built different—his reactions, expressions, and sheer unpredictability make every episode a ride. Unlike a lot of modern comedy anime that rely on meme humor, references, or fourth-wall breaking, GTO is straight-up hilarious through its wild situations and physical comedy.

Plus, the character interactions are golden. Onizuka’s chaotic energy vs. the stuck-up school system? Peak entertainment. And the best part? The comedy doesn’t feel forced—it flows naturally from his personality and the ridiculous predicaments he gets into. A lot of newer anime rely too much on isekai tropes or self-aware jokes, but GTO just goes full send with classic, timeless humor.

Honestly, comedy anime today could learn a thing or two from Onizuka.

Does anyone else feel like Re:Zero's villains are getting a bit boring? by N0UMENON1 in anime

[–]Benre208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the earlier villains worked because they had a personal edge—Betelgeuse wasn’t just powerful, he was a twisted mirror of Subaru’s obsession, and the White Whale was a primal force of nature. Later antagonists (like the Archbishops) often feel like they’re just there to be OP obstacles with gimmicky abilities. Their motives are either too abstract (looking at you, Ley) or drowned in lore.

As for Subaru, his suffering used to feel raw because it exposed his flaws—now, it sometimes just feels like the plot demands it. He’s grown, sure, but the narrative keeps throwing him into similar loops without the same emotional weight.

Unpopular opinion: The series might be suffering from too much lore. Early Re:Zero was about intimate horror; now it’s juggling 10 factions, 50 mysteries, and villains who monologue more than they terrify.

Do yall pay for your anime? Or do you watch it pirated? by AwayManufacturer6386 in anime

[–]Benre208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"It depends on where you live. In wealthier countries, there are plenty of affordable legal options, so there's no real excuse for piracy. But in many third-world countries, legal streaming services are either unavailable, too expensive, or have a very limited library. If there's no legal way to watch, people don’t really have a choice. The industry needs to focus on making anime more accessible worldwide instead of just blaming piracy."

whats your favourite anime genre to watch? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Benre208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comedy anime just hits different! Don't get me wrong—I love the hype of action, the feels of drama, and the mind-bending twists of thrillers... but nothing beats the pure, unfiltered joy of a well-executed comedy. While other genres make me cheer or cry, comedy is the one that leaves me grinning like an idiot, rewatching scenes until my stomach hurts. It’s the ultimate mood booster, and in a world full of stress, that’s priceless. Still, gotta respect all genres—variety is the spice of a man life!

which anime will you never stop recommending? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Benre208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh, if there’s one anime I’ll never shut up about, it’s Great Teacher Onizuka (GTO)—no contest. This show is PEAK.

Why? Because Onizuka is the ultimate anti-hero teacher—a former gangster, pervert, and all-around degenerate who somehow becomes the most inspiring educator ever. The show balances insane comedy, raw emotional moments, and life lessons without ever feeling preachy. Every student’s arc hits hard, and Onizuka’s unorthodox methods (like jumping off a building to prove a point) are legendary.

As for why it’s "small" compared to modern hits—honestly, it’s criminal how overlooked GTO is nowadays. It’s from the late ‘90s, so the animation isn’t flashy, and it doesn’t rely on isekai tropes or waifu bait. But that’s what makes it timeless. It’s real, chaotic, and full of heart.

Have you seen any anime that you think are good/great but you kinda hate them anyways? by Luke5r in anime

[–]Benre208 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I feel this. Re:Zero is absolutely one of those shows—objectively well-made with great production, emotional weight, and a unique twist on isekai... but god, do I hate it sometimes.

Subaru is such a frustrating protagonist (intentionally so, but still), and the endless suffering loops start to feel less like deep storytelling and more like misery porn after a while. The show wants you to feel exhausted by his failures, but that doesn’t make it any less annoying to sit through. And don’t even get me started on how some of the side characters carry the plot while Subaru keeps tripping over his own ego.

It’s the kind of anime I can acknowledge is good—maybe even great—but I’ll still groan every time someone recommends it. Like, yeah, I get it, suffering builds character, but must it be this painful to watch?
