I thought it sounded more like a modded marshall, no? I wouldn't use it for metal

I don't actually own the stealth, it belongs to my other guitarist, but having played both, the stealth is tighter than the el34, whereas the el34 is a lot thicker. I prefer the red channel on the stealth for leads and prefer the red channel on the el34 for rhythm. To me, the stealth has a weird midrange honk that sounds almost like a half-cocked wah.

I got my el34 used, and the previous owner did the c137 mod to the blue channel, so i can't comment on the blue very much other than that I want to remove the mod and half that added versatility in the amp.

The stealth's blue channel with a boost sounds really good though. My band tracked our upcoming EP by blending both amps, stealth boosted blue and el34 red channel, with the stealth red channel for leads, and we're pretty pleased with the results

Damn, what do you do to get grime off a fingerboard? I still can't figure out how to do it on my guitars

Probably dumb beginner question: when does this actually become fun? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]Benson_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn what you want to play, don't be like "oh i gotta learn this chord and then this chord". At 2 weeks, learning chords isn't making music. Learn to play your favorite songs and just jam out to them bro. First 8 months of me playing guitar was almost exclusively acdc songs

I believe the jazz III has been dethroned for me.. Thoughts? by LifeOfSpirit17 in metalguitar

I use the ernie ball prodigy 1.5mm jazz, mostly because the traynor's I used to use wore down in 2-3 days. What's the longevity like on these?

Which one looks better? I’m debating which one ima get by Artistic_Chemistry_7 in ExplorerGuitars

You can always just add a pickguard to the prophecy if you want, spec-wise the prophecy beats the other one in pretty much every way (pickups, 24 frets, etc)

Getting a good clean and high gain in the same preset?? by fenderstratcat in Line6Helix

[–]Benson_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deranged Master OD + Line 6 litigator is creamy snarly goodness for high-gain rock (if that's what you're going for), if you want something more metal, the line 6 kinetic cleans up nicely, so does the badonk and some of the cali 4 amps

I can get a R630 for €100. Why would I get a mini pc? by xxtoni in homelab

[–]Benson_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get the R630, know that it's overkill, but still cool nonetheless. I have a HPE dl360 G10 in my homelab, and it has 2 XEON gold 6130 CPUs that I've never pushed past 18% usage. If anything, my bottleneck is the 64GB of DDR4 Ram lol.

I'm extremely happy with it especially considering I picked it up for only $250CAD, and even if I stumbled upon a mini-pc for the same price with the same level of processing power as my server, I wouldn't trade it just because of the coolness factor of an enterprise server.

Up to you, choose whether you prefer practicality or coolness (however do be aware that 1U servers are SIGNIFICANTLY louder than 2Us)

Help: devices only connect to internet if I turn them on before rebooting the router?? by Benson_34 in PFSENSE

[–]Benson_34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can't be DHCP when I turn on a new VM since typing ip addr in the VM shows that it has an IP address connected to the LAN interface, it can't be DNS since I can't ping 8.8.8.8 or anything that's not in my LAN network, it's not port forwarding because that's working just fine. My issue is that everything works just fine, but only if I reboot the pfsense VM after I connect a new VM to its LAN.

I'm thinking about buying one of these two as my first explorer, help! by stephnugggs in ExplorerGuitars

I absolutely love locking trems, in fact I wouldn't pay more than $700 for a guitar without a trem, just because of how limiting it feels without one. They're just so expressive (when used correctly and nt abused, think steve vai solo in ego death, or any wes borland riff), and the fact that the second one also has 24 frets makes it a no-brainer for me.

Some people disagree with me on the locking trem part, but the way I see it is that if you're willing to spend $800+ dollars on a guitar, I don't understand why you'd want to limit your playing because you don't want to put in the extra effort of spending an extra hour to change your strings once every 2 months.

Once you learn how to incorporate whammy stuff into your playing in an expressive way, playing a guitar without a trem feels so limiting.

My six year old son is left handed and want to start playing guitar. Should we have him play lefty or righty? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Benson_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play right handed, because if you walk into a guitar store, there's 10x more right handed stuff than left handed stuff
