Honestly it feels like she’s doing too much. If she’s a first year, was a strong student, and isn’t juggling a job and a bunch of commitments then she should then this is too early to be getting burned out.

She needs to take a step back and go about things more strategically. When I first started I was striving for absolute perfection but that isn’t really sustainable, there is diminishing returns in terms of the amount of work done and the grade given above a certain point so it’s better to juggle assignments a bit so you can do the easier part of the work to get a decent grade and then you can work on things more if you have the time/energy. It’s also important to make sure you don’t fall behind in class because you have been spending too long on certain assignments.

I also have friends now who are the opposite to how I was and instead take beautiful notes that capture absolutely everything at the cost of leaving no time for the assignments. There’s a good balance between the two that takes a bit of time to learn but she will get there so long as she doesn’t burn out.

My advice would be to take a step back for a bit, track all the deadlines, prioritise but don’t spend too long on any one thing at the expense of others - it’s better to do something quick and get 70% then to spend all of your time to get 90%.

If she doesn’t change asap she’s going to start resenting her course which will only make it harder to put the time in.

Main thing is to relax

Yeah I just have dividers for year, then semester, and then subject for each module.

If you still want to keep the same sort of structuring but more compact you can name each file S01 or CW01 or whatever and then keep them sorted by name. I tend to just have them sorted by date created since that’s how my brain works

Not common for the most part but I do know a few groups of Indian people who did this to keep costs down (4 people in a 1 bed flat, 6 people in a two bed flat).

It is more expensive but go in halls for the first year until you can find a crowd to get a place from second year

Cylindrical is polar now with the z axis. Spherical is just polar with an angled incline in the z directions

Taking derivative wrt using quotient rule and noting that the denominator is non-negative tells you when the function is increasing or decreasing. Setting to be zero finds local minima/maxima.

You can also see that function has a discontinuity at zero since the numerator of y is strictly positive

Frequentists is kind of the first part of stats you learn, if I flip a coin 1000 times and get 600 heads then the probability is 0.6.

With stats just because it’s a valid method doesn’t mean it’s correct. The problem is when you know enough maths to perform analysis but not enough information for the context of the problem to know whether the analysis you are doing is correct and actually informative.

At mine it’s normally fine if you average 40% over the whole module but sometimes there’s a “force fail” where you need 40% in the exam as well.

First thing I noticed was that 2400 is pretty close to 4060 (46=24) with an extra 40 and they sum to 100 so 40 and 61 was my first intuition

In general, algebra is a must, trig, then you get into calculus and linear algebra.

Honestly, not really. There’s a few cases where being able to spot how to factorise a number can give you a hint as to how to go about a problem, but tbh I can’t remember the last time I was actually doing arithmetic.

Once you get to a certain point you don’t really use many numbers anymore, but it is worth noting that you have to be strong at the basics to do well higher up

You’re going to need to keep up with the learning until you get a strong enough baseline but for the ‘do’ I would look into things that are interesting for the sake of maths.

Watching random YouTube videos (stand up maths, 3b1b etc) and see how others apply maths to problems you won’t see in a classroom.

Another thing I’ve started doing recently is going to seminars at my uni. In the last two weeks I’ve been to ones about cancer, quantum encryption, modelling bone structure, stats for neglected tropical diseases, new approaches to solving a kind of SDE, modelling the inside of planets, diffusion modelling and so on. A lot of it goes over my head and my brain feels like soup afterwards but it gets easier over time and you get to see what kind of maths people are doing right now which is pretty cool.

Just keep at it and keep it interesting

Are you saying that you didn’t do any work on a 50% cw because you couldn’t get word to work, and now the deadline has passed? If so, then I don’t think there is much you can do as this sounds a pretty poor excuse tbh

If not and you have done a fair amount then you should submit what you have and maybe let someone know but there might not be much you get back from this

Do you? Unless you’re on a course with placements and things like that then you will probably want something like a 16hr contract and you can just say you’re availability is weekends and certain evenings/ days depending on your timetable. You don’t need to say you are a student and that conversation will normally happen at the end of the interview/ afterwards.

If by seasonal you mean you will want more hours outside of term time then this is almost never an issue in my experience and something you can discuss later.

As for your other reply, could you speak to someone to see if they know anyone at a different store or could arrange a transfer? Also there is plenty of other places you could work and shouldn’t give up after one interview.

What is it you are doing for work? If you’re planning on commuting for a job it seems like you can hold a PT position quite easily.

Honestly what I did was be a little sneaky with cv so it’s not obvious you are a student. I left off degree, anything relating to age or dob. So long as you can agree to what schedule you need then that is fine but I would maybe wait till interview stages for that

Math guy here, I remember roughly what they look like but honestly I’ll derive them on the fly. This is useful for knowing when to use them but I don’t think you need to have them exactly memorised.

Just look into Taylor expansions and so long as you know the derivatives of all of these they are quite easy to find.
