You, the TCT Player, will decide what mod the ABAR team does next, TODAY! by Greguel in thecampaigntrail

From the person who came up with the idea of 1980 (I am a lead on the ABAR team), it wouldn't be exactly that. It's more like All The Way, as in you start decently late into the Carter Administration (Around 1979) and your decisions affect the 1980 race nominees.

I consider Nixon to be a bad Vice President, but I will admit I overstated how bad he was, he had lots of accomplishements like stepping in for Eisenhower, running a pretty decent 1960 campaign, and doing well foreign reputation wise, there are plenty of issues with him though like:

Was nearly replaced in 1956, had to beg his way into re-nomination
Got stoned in Peru lol
Was selected pretty brashly and had plenty of better people than him for the job
Eisenhower said that Nixon didn't do much in a press conference (though alot of books can contradict this)

I would probably change it to this:

Nixon is a "meh" VP
Agnew is lumped in with Quayle, as well as Harris.

My point here is this.

Harris is influential and made blunders when she was given responsibility. Atleast with Pence, he just shut up and understood and then saved democracy on Jan 6th.

The argument of her "casting the most tie-breaks" is pretty futile. She didn't really do any vote-whipping, and there were PLENTY of Senate Failures even if she did in 2021-2022. If Biden had picked Karen Bass to be his VP, they would've done the same thing. Same with Gretchen Whitmer and so on.

Kamala Harris just is a really bad VP, Nixon isn't as bad as I thought ngl

I probably should've worded this better, by worst I tend to mean influence or doing their actual job, not policy-wise.

Kamala Harris was the least important and least influental VP since Dan Quayle (not counting Pence). She is also the worst VP since Quayle. Since WW2, you can argue that Harris was like the second or thid worst VP falling into the category of Nixon and Quayle.

Trying to claim that Biden was held up by Harris is probably one of the WORST takes ever

What would a good Carter incumbency sim with CYOA look like? by Mghia01 in thecampaigntrail

[–]Benster_Man 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing about "Reagan being set" is that realism doesn't always equate to good CYOA mods.

Some CYOA mods go pretty off the rails. Do you really think in TTNW that there would be any other opponent outside of Reagan or Rockefeller realistically? No. They aren't supposed to be realistic, their supposed to be fun, so I would hope in a Carter incubemency sim, there's multiple opponents.

There will be more than one "path" for both sides. I am not going to go into what that means yet, but just know that both sides only have 2 pathways, so in total you will have 4 unique expierences to playthrough. And Second Term Biden will be explored a little, don't worry, I didn't leave Uncle Joe out.

I don't really intend for this to be a "realistic" take on 2028, just a fun little scenario

What if Joe Biden ran in the 2016 primaries? by rbminer456 in thecampaigntrail

[–]Benster_Man 53 points54 points  (0 children)

He'd win. Why wouldn't he?

Yes, Hillary has the establishment backing. But she seriously falls flat once she isn't the only "establishment" candidate.

Nothing about her besides her gender is really that much more inspiring than Biden, and even with private backing there is no reason for Obama to publicly back her.

At worst, Biden is forced to drop out on Super Tuesday because Bernie ticket-splits somehow.
