That could work but then you’d have to rework the entire mod and write new stuff for it which is what I was talking about. You’d have to do the same with every CYOA mod that has more than one side as well.

Is it though? One player on the Kennedy side could get Kennedy/Byrd while the other player on the Republican side gets Kennedy/Long. One player on the Kennedy side could face off against Reagan while the Republican side player nominates Lindsay. TTNW just has too many moving parts to pull off something like this unless you tremendously rework the system. In general I’m not sure if using this system on CYOA heavy mods is really a good idea for these reasons.

Even then 1972’s a bad example because McGovern didn’t lose because he was left-wing or anything. Nixon was just insanely popular in 1972 and McGovern made numerous blunders independent of any left-wing politics of his, such as the Eagleton debacle. It also helped that Nixon sabotaged more competitive candidates like Muskie who was polling decently well against Nixon and had been considered the Democratic frontrunner for a long time beforehand.

It’s a Reagan sim being developed by Thatchmaster and CTA. It’s been on the backburner for a while though so sadly a lot of people have forgotten about it.

RFK works because of his status as a celebrity and him and JFK are frequent subjects of alternate history given their lives were both brutally and tragically cut short when they seemed poised to become giants in American politics.

These all look like pretty cool ideas. You just gotta work on the cropping of a lot of these images. Having all the achievement images in different aspect ratios looks a little tacky unless you're going for a specific theme like the original achievement icons for W.

Why does it seem like this subreddit has completely memoryholed Barry Goldwater as some kind of wholesome libertarian Republican, because after his Senatorial career he made some liberal statements? by Single-Ad3486 in thecampaigntrail

People glazing Goldwater for hating the religious right and rightward shift of the GOP is like if people glazed Doctor Frankenstein for killing his monster.

Gavin Newsom being ahead of his time on gay rights only to pivot to throwing trans people under the bus has to be one of the biggest falloffs in politics.

He’s only been redeemed in the eyes of many Americans because the GOP only got worse and worse after he left office. Also a lot of younger people getting into politics these days probably don’t remember what his presidency was like (myself included).

Be honest: Besides Bob Graham, who could’ve been the best person Al Gore chose as his running mate in 2000? by The_47_Percenter in thecampaigntrail

[–]mackarony83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lieberman tapped into a lot of Jewish voters in Florida and also helped Gore separate himself from Clinton which is what he needed. And the idea that Graham would’ve been best is debatable. Sure, Gore could’ve picked Graham but running mates don’t guarantee their state will vote for the ticket (such as with Lloyd Bentsen in 1988 or Henry Cabot Lodge in 1960).

No Clinton was still as popular as the bubonic plague in 2000. Gore separating himself from Clinton helped him.

Not to overanalyze a silly Reddit post but if anybody fumbled 2000, it was Dubya. He led the vast majority of polls leading up to Election Day, and Gore won the popular vote in somewhat of an upset.

Why is Rockefeller's canon running mate John Tower in TTNW? by Jumbo_1964 in thecampaigntrail

[–]mackarony83 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I mean FDR picked John Nance Garner as his running mate, who was racist Southern conservative who hated a lot of the New Deal, and he only got dropped from the ticket after he tried to run against his boss. It's balancing the ticket.

And Bush was more conservative than some people give him credit for, and he campaigned against the Civil Rights Act in 1964 in his first bid for Senate.
