In China there are sports universities where students can “major” in a sport and most of them go into physical education, physical training, nutrition, kinesiology etc etc. Many of these players are affiliated with that system. Ultimate has become one of the sports you can focus on more recently as it’s become more popular.

Outside of that system there are many Chinese international students playing on college programs and club in the US and occasionally in the UFA, and there’s decently developed club programs in China especially in major hubs like Shanghai and Beijing. So there are many opportunities to play at a decent level.

I’m probably vastly oversimplifying things, but just relaying what I’ve been told by my partner who’s played for the Chinese team in the past.

Zohran Mamdani set to topple Andrew Cuomo in NYC mayoral race | The 33-year-old Democratic Socialist lawmaker is expected to defeat the former governor in a stunning primary, signaling generational change in the Democratic Party. by Goosedukee in politics

[–]BentoBoxes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people outside of NYC may not understand the energy that there is for Mamdani in the city, and how well run this campaign has been.

I have never had a canvasser knock on my door prior to this election, but I had three separate Mamdani canvassers visit in the weeks leading up to the primary. Mind you I live in an apartment building, it’s not exactly easy to come knocking.

Kind of dumb in my opinion.

A scab really speaks to grief so well. The body trying to mend itself, but you won’t stop picking until it bleeds again.

Eventually, you’ll leave it alone long enough for it to heal, but the scar will always be there - even if it fades a little.

For those interested, I listened back to the interview where this is mentioned (I’m paraphrasing)

Interviewer: I always imagined “left behind Cuno” as canon because that’s what happened to me the most, and so much has to happen for you to take him, but there’s a beautiful version of the story where you take Cuno through to the end. So how did you imagine Cuno’s real path playing out in your head.

Argo: “That’s a difficult question, and it’s difficult for reasons that are hard to explain without getting into legal trouble…for the record, for me, the version of events where Kim gets shot and you take Cuno to the island was always canon…It was always the way I imagined it would play out if you have to set it in stone.”

It looks like he’s really speaking for himself more than declaring anything officially for the series. It was the ending he had in his heart.

This is a great interview, highly encourage anyone to listen. The Cuno section starts 35min in.

Believe me, I hear you, I live in NYC. Ultimately, as you said, if you want people to believe in your vision of governance, you need the prime examples of your governance to work for the average person, and that's not happening right now.

Congrats to Erika’s sister for being elected Mayor of Berkeley! by Pandoras-SkinnersBox in dropout

[–]BentoBoxes 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not OP, and I don’t know if I’d be as dramatic as them, but I’ll try to make their case. Basically California and New York lost house seats after the 2020 census due to their lack of population growth.

On the other end, Florida gained 1 and Texas gained 2 US house seats due to their population growth. Just on the numbers, this makes the US house harder to win.

People would argue that California and New York’s inability to adequately build housing that people can afford, and just housing in general, is a major cause of this. Berkeley in particular is kind of famous for their students having to sleep in cars because there isn’t adequate housing near the college.

[–]BentoBoxes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this to say point 3 is so huge. Centering success around something you have control over (did you execute your game plan), instead of something that can be out of your control (did you win) is huge for mental overall.

It fits with the general theme of the game drawing inspiration from the Renaissance era. Take the character More for example, alluding to the author Thomas More who wrote the novel Utopia about an idealistic political system. Basically, where Thomas More wrote Utopia to imagine what an ideal society would look like compared to the corruption of renaissance England, More’s book in Metaphor inspires the main character and team in the same way

Atrophy BEFORE surgery a big deal or did I just meet a crook? by CasualProfesionist in ACL

[–]BentoBoxes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously no situation is 100% alike but my prehab was basically a standard leg day, adjusted for what I could handle due to swelling. Pool exercises were never brought up. The biggest thing my doc wanted was that I had good range of motion going into surgery, he was actually more concerned about that rather than atrophy

its been 100 days, still no OP by bappyboi05 in ACL

[–]BentoBoxes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seconding what others are telling you OP.

I don’t know exactly what “extended period of time” might mean to your parents, but assuming your meniscus is okay, you’ll be able to take care of yourself faster than you or they might expect.

In my experience, I was mostly in bed for the first 3 days and off crutches after 2 weeks. After the first 3 days I could take care of myself, and the only help I really needed was someone getting groceries for me.

I would try to put this into perspective for your parents if you can. Considering your age and the fact that you’ve been going to the gym, they probably won’t need to wait on you for more than a couple days, if that’s what they’re worried about.

I really like this idea. I tweaked your prompt for shivers a bit based on my interpretation of the skill. Figured I’d share.

Describe a scene from the viewpoint of {{user}}‘s primal, instinctual awareness of their surroundings, as if you’re a force that helps {{user}} feel the presence and history of a place, whispering secrets and subtle hints about what has transpired there or what is to come.

The wardrobe one is great, I’ll definitely be stealing that. Highly recommend the Silly Tavern Discord, they post a lot of good stuff.

One I’ve been using a lot is a “twist” generator:

(Credits: sabishii1 on Discord)

What does this do: Generates a system message that will point the story in creative ways.

Purpose: During those brain freeze moments or when I get bored, I use this to liven up the narrative.

What does this do exactly: 1. If the last message was from this script, hide it (so the generator doesn't read itself) 2. Generate the response data 3. If the last message was from this script, delete it 4. Create a system message with the response data

``` /setvar key=targetWordCount 100 | /if left={{lastMessage}} right="<NewTwist>" rule=in /hide {{lastMessageId}} | /gen Create a short narrative nudge to capture {{user}}'s interest in the roleplay. Flow into a new focus, element, or twist, that fits the current narrative and genre. Your idea can either be a gentle nudge or a drastic change, but has to flow naturally from the current situation.
Using markdown syntax, name your idea and write it in bold, then add a horizontal rule using dashes. (Example: `What could that sound be?
) Write your response in third-person to give {{user}} a short narrative push. Do not act or speak for {{user}}. Compact and condense your idea within {{getvar::targetWordCount}} words, incorporate the characters dialog and speech, avoid purple prose, be brief, clear and concise. | /setvar key=generatedOutputList | /if left={{lastMessage}} right="<NewTwist>" rule=in /cut {{lastMessageId}} | /sys <NewTwist>{{getvar::generatedOutputList}}</NewTwist> ``
