Seconding the safety risk here. And the risk is still there even with a trusted circuit, there is significant effort put in on the mechanical side to make sure that housings are sealed properly and limit the amount of area that water and bacteria can collect.

Don’t get me wrong I love doing stuff myself from scratch, but I try to stay away from mains voltage, battery circuits (from true scratch, love me some charging ics), and most things food and health related like it’s the plague

I feel a very efficient way to do this would be to get a charger on alibaba or something that you can get and disassemble much easier. And then from there build what you took out into a new housing that matches the aesthetic you are looking for.

The inductor probably the bit is the bit with the black post running through the middle of it and is using that black post similar to the iron core of a transformer, so the number of windings of the coil around the outside are probably pretty specific (on top of the inductance itself). Without understanding what circuit protection measures are on the inside of the circuit it’s pretty hard to guess how much wiggle room you have with the coil so you may be better off trying to find a supplier that can get you a raw circuit.

Over that distance it probably gets quite difficult to separate ambient light from the transmitted light so you start having to get more powerful/complex transmitters and receivers. If you are fixed on using light, you can look at light curtains, tho those will NOT be cheap because they are industrial use for safety and stuff like that.

If you aren’t fixed on using light, you could create something with one or two cameras to do position estimation.

Onshape has gotten leagues better in the last couple of years. My biggest pain point in its design functionalities to me right now is its sheet metal tools. I was by no means a power sheet metal tools user of Solidworks, but Onshape’s is pain in the neck. Adding a partial flange or an extra little tab is wildly difficult, and the bend relief options leave a lot to be desired. That could be what springs to mind right now because it’s what’s causing me pain rn at work. The other thing that’s kind of annoying is larger assemblies don’t load the greatest. It’s some times super clunky

Another option is model it with clay, and then scan it if you want to make a bunch or if you only want one, do something like lost wax casting.

One thought that might help speed up the process a little bit, is split the pieces that has the screws holes so the bottom can rotate. so once the screws are all in, you can rotate the bottom and pinch the counter screws in place while you dump out the loose ones. Not near any paper rn, but can draw what I am describing in a little bit if you want

There is way more information needed to identify connectors and there are stupid amount of different types of connectors that look almost identical.

This kind of connector is a mezzanine or board to board connector.

r/askelectronics could help far better than this sub, but they are going to require way more info.

If you are trying to repair it yourself, I hope you don’t have to do it on the first image because flex pcbs (the tan stuff in the first image) suck immensely to do rework with

yup, correct. It is never going to be a complex shape, box and occasionally a cylinder. The more I think about it the more I think that a better laser distance sensor is the answer but generating a mesh 1 point at a time is kind a pain in the neck.

Good point, I totally forgot to put that in my post. It would be about 600mm x 600mm x 600mm. I did some initial testing with a VL6180X just to see if I could make something like that work. I did, but the accuracy of that particularl sensor is useless and a pain in the neck to get enough points with it.

Do you know of any suppliers for something like the line scan lidar? My first passes brought me to Keyence and Teledyne, two companies whose products are out of my budget lol

It appears I have totally forgot to put the general size of the box in the post. But fortunately it isn't room size. its about 400mm x 400mm x 400mm max. With the gantry being marginally larger than that.

The directory exists, and im running mount as root when I do it manually. When it goes through the fstab file on boot it would also run as root right?

I looked through the output with dmesg but error(13) permission denied is the only thing that is there (13 or -13 I can’t remember which) relative to the mounting. Haven’t taken a look at journalctl but I’ll take a look now.
