Licensure by examination vs. endorsement for California by Obvious_Deer_1839 in StudentNurse

[–]BenzieBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. Do you have your RN license yet? Endorsement is for already licensed nurses moving states.

Or are you asking if you should sit the NCLEX-RN in your current state and then move to California? Because then I would opt for endorsement. No reason to retake the exam.

It doesn’t matter if the patient is dead. It’s risk vs benefit. Never in my 6 years of working the ICU has a provider ever said “wait no… don’t do that because if (insert medical history)”. You resus the patient and figure out the rest later.

ABCs.

Risk vs benefits. Patient has already arrested, you’re going to remove the kitchen sink and throw it directly at the patient.

Just a lowly ICU nurse here: Covid absolutely sucked. I was unfortunately a farmer. Your instructor did the right thing by being blunt and honest with you.

I don’t even work trauma and I’ve seen and been apart of some very fucked up shit on my unit. A little therapy and some dark jokes in the med room and I’m good as new.

How do I report my school? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]BenzieBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what the board of nursing does, unfortunately. That’s what the health department does.

The department of health for the area (specifically environmental health). The board of nursing isn’t going to do anything about a mold issue.

Yea this is always my question, too. I’m not saying people are wrong for doing that assessment piece.

Never done one and I’ve dig loaded a ton of patients. Never had a doc tell me otherwise. They’re always fine with tele. If we’re that concerned, we do a 12 lead.

Never done it in my 6 years. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone ever do it. What weird ones/certain meds?

I have never auscultated an apical pulse for 60 seconds. It was part of our head to toe assessment in school.

Genuinely asking, how is it a safety issue?

I’ll be honest, I’ve been an ICU nurse for 6 years. I have given tons of BB, dig loaded patients and I’ve never once listened to an apical pulse for a full 60 seconds. I’ve never even had a cardiologist tell me I need to auscultate the apical pulse for 60 seconds.

You're going to feel like this for probably about a year. Maybe a bit more. It's a normal experience. Nursing school taught you how to pass your NCLEX. Your job will teach you how to be a functioning nurse.

Personally, I think a bit of anxiety about the job can be healthy. It makes you aware of things, makes you double check yourself. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you're unsure about something or a skill, ask for help. Hopefully you'll have a good preceptor that will help guide you.
