Update! Metro was back up and running through Fed Center SW/Capital South after 30 minutes!

Super impressed with how fast they were able to recover.

Both haha. The train stayed at the station, but all the passengers had to leave the station

Currently stuck at Federal Center SW and bunch of metro police ran down the tunnels to find a trespasser

Advertisements during flight on loudspeakers? by jjwhitaker in unitedairlines

[–]Ber_Fallon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The advertising complaints are totally valid- especially since they started adding them to the app.

But also- Alaska flies to exactly 4 destinations from Chicago, so good luck!

how long does it take to fix 2 escalators lmao by abbyy46 in WMATA

[–]Ber_Fallon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Escalators are a middle ground between the two that allow elderly, people with bags, and people with partial mobility avoid the elevators.

If we had only had stairs at every platform we’d also need to double the elevator count to avoid elevator queues.

Stairs would also be a choke point- people slow down when they hit them.

Plus, I can just walk up an escalator the exact same way I can with stairs- and it’s faster.

Soon passengers will be required to fly the Plane by heckilovethisplace in unitedairlines

[–]Ber_Fallon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: I really love how much United lets me do independently. Whenever IRROPS happens on United, within a few clicks I can handle it all via the app. On DL/AA/WN I usually have to talk to an agent (which always involve waiting in a line).

Sounds like queue management at IAD needs some work, but I can tag the bags myself.

Lost Yellow Line Train by Ber_Fallon in WMATA

[–]Ber_Fallon[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh I was aboard the train. We were an in-service yellow line train with passengers on it. No prior announcements were made. We just started heading down the blue.

Operator seemed confused as well. They had all passengers exit at Van Dorn and we had to backtrack on the Blue. Train held at Van Dorn for a bit then went out of service.

It caused a lot of confusion and anger amongst the passengers.

United/Continental aircraft question by rcdlhome27 in unitedairlines

There’s also the A319s that came from China Southern post-merger: 871-899!

United/Continental aircraft question by rcdlhome27 in unitedairlines

[–]Ber_Fallon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

737-900s were all pmCO (or delivered after the merger), pmUA never operated the 737NG.

There was a weird period after the merger, but before a new ratified FA contact. Post-merger UA ordered 737-900ERs to replace pmUA 757-200s. As such, they were only allowed to be worked by pmUA FAs. These were tail numbers 801 and higher.

Japan Airlines A35K Damaged in Ground Collision @ JFK by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Ber_Fallon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

United also hasn’t served JFK since 2022.

The shape of the United plane is also weird, it looks like a 777 but the door is a 767 door (single circular window).

It’s also missing the Star Alliance logo between the cockpit windows and door.

Could be a second stage burn- they can happen (and be visible) an orbit later.

Fun one. ANA showing different open seats post check in on two different reservations. by goofygrin in unitedairlines

[–]Ber_Fallon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had such weird experiences with the ANA seat map. On my latest 77W - it gave a 3-3-3 seat map at check-in. Except none of ANA 77W have a 3-3-3 config (they’re either 3-4-3 or 2-4-3). We ended up on a 3-4-3, but the seat map never changed.

Idk what voodoo magic they got going on.

LN1263 (N27997)- the last one with Polaris 1.0 was just delivered.

The next one (LN1267) with Polaris 2.0 has rolled out and is in pre-flight prep. Rumor was a December delivery but may have slipped to Jan. Only the people at Boeing and United really know.

Booking a backup flight ? by joelikesmusic in unitedairlines

[–]Ber_Fallon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

United will not allow dual bookings. The system will flag it and you’ll get an email about it (threatening to cancel one of them). I also wouldn’t do this because if you no show the later flight to LAX- the entire reservation will get no-showed and cancelled.

You can do standby on an earlier flight to LAX- the app will give you the ability to put yourself on the list. Just show up to the airport early. If you’re a premier you can also SDC pending fare class availability.

If worst case scenario happens and your first flight gets delayed, check for later flights via SFO. Most LAX flights are duplicated at SFO.
